This may have already been discussed, but a few days ago it dawned on me that the sixers could still be bad enough to get Dennis Smith Jr.

It's a shame that years of tanking may actually pay off for the Sixers

I doubt any other franchise will have the guts to do what Philly did the last three years, not any of the current GMs at least. Plus I am sure Adam Silver will do whatever he can to prevent another tanking session to happen.

But yes, I hope it pays off with at least one championship!

well Hinkie was demoted & stripped of his power so I don't think any GM will have the "guts" to emulate Hinkie.

Hinkie died for all the Sixers sins so they could have Ben Simmons, Saric finally coming over and a healthy Embiid.

What Hinkie did really wasn't all that different from normal tanking except he fielded a D-League team instead of an awful NBA team. The result was basically the same as a normal, patient rebuild.

The optics of trading away NBA talent for next to nothing, signing D-League talent, drafting player's not immediately playing, not communicating well, etc. was just too much.

"The Process" was a success by all objective accounts.

Sixers are in an enviable position for the future and it's all because of Hinkie's moves.


Lucky for him the Colangelo's will find a way to ruin this and make him look better as time goes on.

Don't see how anyone can say the Sixers tank was successful at this point. A bunch of conflicting pieces that they won't be able to get fair value for. Doesn't matter if it's hinkie or colangelo, they've painted themselves into a corner. Hinkie's rep was so awful he wouldn't have been able to make any decent deals going forward. A lot hinges on Joel's health. If he's not right this whole thing is an unmitigated disaster.

The only thing I disagree with was picking Okafor, all the other moves I love.


If you think they won't get value for trading one of their recent lottery picks + future picks than idk what to tell you.


After this season it will just be about smart roster construction and building around Simmons/Embiid.

I mean their GM had gone on record saying he's been getting garbage offers for his recent lotto picks. Damn near begging for a decent return. If there was value to be had they'd probably be gone by now. I'm anticipating the offers will more or less stay the same but it's the Sixers who will get desperate and budge seeing how they have no other choice with the corner hinkie painted them into. With three guys playing the same position their value can only go down not up. Only a matter of time before agents start demanding trades since their guys aren't getting pt and hurting their stock, forcing the Sixers hand. This is what other GM's are banking on and it would have been the same story with hinkie in charge.

Embiid is still a huge question mark. When you consider that nerlens and oak are on the move their core right now is what, Simmons saric and stauskas? Their situation is nothing like say the wolves who you can look at and project them to grow into a contender as is. Hinkie is responsible for this predicament so I can't get jiggy with the died for their sins narrative. He is their sin.

Once Simmons gets a jumper, oak/nerlens get moved for starting caliber players and embiid plays a full season then I'll get on the wave.

The opposite was the Sixers being a middling team that does nothing like the Hawks/Bulls/Bucks have been.


I think Hinkie made the right decision philosophy wise but could've executed it better.


Sixers will definitely get value for Nerlens, I don't care what their GM is saying to the press, most of that is posturing.

I would keep him unless I could really get a foundational piece, I'd rather trade Oak and a future pick.



I don't know why you even bought up Stauskas, he's not apart of anything and might not even be in the league after next season.

Well sixers didn't have any leverage due to the whole world knowing they wanna trade a big , why wouldn't get nothing but lowball /bs offers ? ...I been said wait till the trade deadline , that's when **** gon be real...gotta see how Embiid plays n teams gon be lookin for more talent or an extra piece for a late push ...they can find a good trade if they still want during that time

They still won't have any leverage going forward..nothing is going to change. Everyone knows they're trying to move one if not two bigs. It's not posturing, it's desperation. You can't just say wait til the deadline because Philly is also on a deadline which is probably even more urgent. How in the world are they possibly going to increase their value? These dudes are still on their rookie contracts and need to see the floor if they're going to get better. They're not just gonna peacefully rot on the bench for 3 and a half months for the slim chance that Philly can salvage a deal. They're gonna start getting noisy and rightfully so, it's not fair to their careers to be in this situation.

It's a catch 22, the only way oak/Noel can increase their value is if embiid gets hurt and opens up minutes. And if last season is any indication they still won't be able to increase their value because they can't play together. I said it before, the purpose of the tank was to quit being a middling team and build a championship squad but theyre going to end up in the exact same position as they were before the process if not worse.

I won't go all in and say Hinkie died for our sins until I see Simmons and Embiid on the court...but we're in a way better position than we was a few years ago being a bottom feeder that gets killed by the cavs every years and ends up with the 16th pick in the draft.

And If Embiid healthy it doesn't matter what we get for Noel or Oak because at that point were just be using our assets to build our team around Embiid and Simmons..same way OKC did with Harden and eventually got Adams..teams always want good players...Not to mention the Lakers and kings pick could convey this year..Yes today I would rather be the wolves but I like were we are right now..
