The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

The whole time I thought Dana would hit Rory with a bonus.

If that didn't happen.....ridiculous.

these guys gotta start a union and get their fair share
unless you are a mega star, you're getting shafted consider how much the ufc makes

I thought fight of the night both fighters get payed, not just the winner

FoTN is both fighters I believe.

Still, Rorys base being 59k for a title fight is a joke. He's been a top contender for a while now, the fact that he only made that much for that 5 round war is almost sad.

Y'all right. I had a hazy flashback of a thought that someone that should have gotten a bonus didn't (or would after the fact) when I was watching live and it was actually Chad.

But he wound up getting what I would imagine is a MUCH larger than usual base.

^^^Dave Meltzer is reporting that his camp is negotiating with major organizations. Nothing concrete. Prior to his retirement, he was commanding multi-million dollar pay days. Strike Force was losing money in their contract with him.

They're not hip. MMA is still a young sport. The collective fighters don't have a voice with Bellator, UFC, etc. With the recent drug policy changes, Reebok deal and low pay, you would think the fighters would've been galvanized to take action. There's that class-action suit but we'll see how well it does.

He did get fight of the night bonus plus the 30k from reebok. And I'm pretty sure dana took care of him with an undisclosed bonus.

And smh at ppl tthinking cain and Robbie and the headliners ain't getting ppv points as well...

I guess it all boils down to transparency. Usually contracts spell out guaranteed money and incentives. Not "back door" shenanigans. UFC doesn't normally release the details of Fighter contracts. When you listen to MMA Hour and Ariel asks fighters the specifics of their contracts, 10 out of 10 decline to provide that information.

I know Connor McGregor didn't "only" make $500K. He probably got PPV points, undisclosed bonuses, etc. A lot of the issues in the UFC are due to an immature sport, the league/promotion having all of the power and no union.

The way I always read it is the guys that DO NOT get win bonus' (Conor here. I've seen GSP and Anderson not get them as well I believe) were the only ones that got PPV points.

That was just an assumption though.

You believe otherwise?

“I’ve talked to fighters in the past who’ve had pay-per-view points, and they’ll fight on pay-per-view, and they won’t reach their goal, so they won’t get the pay-per-view points,” Johnson (19-2-1 MMA, 7-1-1 UFC) told MMAjunkie Radio. “I know I’m not a big name like Anderson Silva or [Georges St-Pierre]. That’s why there are only a few guys that have that kind of thing.

how much money does the UFC take in for these events? do they split PPV buys with the fighters?

its not an accurate comparison, but i'd like to see how much lower tier boxers make. seeing rory only take home $59k after that fight is :x

Again, with companies like UFC or WWE, there's not a whole lot of transparency in event or business segment revenue. The UFC claims it had a $7 million gate. The PPV buy rates, merchandise sales won't be known for a few weeks.

I wonder how much guys like Ariel and Luke Thomas are making. What if they're making more than a lot of fighters

I'm watching he MMA Hour now, apparently Conor's coach is claiming Conor did zero live wrestling in camp due to his knee injury

It's been reported from "sources" that he had a MCL tear. He mentioned during his post fight interview that he had an injury worse than Aldo and still showed up to the fight. Luke Thomas mentioned it yesterday during his weekly podcast. Someone posted a link to a Brandon Schaub podcast and it was mentioned there. Doing a camp with injuries isn't anything new.

MMA is niche so I wouldn't have any idea how much the "journalists" earn? Journalism is such a dead-end job unless you get syndicated, become a major correspondent on a network, write books, etc. Ariel has MMA Fighting, MMA Hour podcast/show and appears on UFC Tonight.

Like I'm sure Michael Bisping, D.C. and a few others make extra money being correspondents/on-air personalities.

Weeks ago that FRB guy on Twitter said that McGregor hurt his knee during that face-off world tour while he was sparring with Rory and was getting stem cell injections.

Out of all the MMA journalists, Ariel probably makes the most. Probably more than some of the newcomers in UFC that are making $8k-$16k to show up. He's the one they have breaking all the news. But because of that, he'll never really criticize them cause all of his scoops and UFC gigs will be given to someone else.

Dana was telling Aldo to get PRP for his rib lol.

Dunno, Ariel has gotten put on blast from fighters and Promoters (see Uncle Dana, Bjorn). He was just reconciling with Chael Sonnen on last week's show. The Diaz Brothers avoided him for a long time. And trust me, he's probably doing well because his place in the industry. But it's not different than other highly regarded journalist. But it's not like they're caking unless they're an anchor/on-air personality.

U don't think ppl like cain, pettis, Aldo, we're getting ppv points?

And from djs comments it seems like hes confirming the fact that once they reach a certain amount of buys they get a certain cent on the dollar, once they get to another level, it goes up. And since dj ppv don't sell, he's not seeing much

Oh yeah I'm not doubting the legitimacy of Conor's injury, it's just funny to me that you're facing one of the most feared wrestlers in the division and you can't train wrestling

At the same time if one doesn't believe the severity Aldo's injury then why should they believe Conor's. Just throwing it out there

All of the champs and a lot of the top fighters get ppv points. But with the way ppvs have been selling, they're not making that much.

Based on the Eddie Alvarez contract dispute with Bellator, UFC was offering him ppv bonuses. $1 for each buy between 200k-400k. $2 for 400k-600k. And $2.50 for $600k+.

If Aldo has a similar deal, over the last 2 years he only earned ppv bonuses twice by barely getting over 200k buys. DJ only got them twice in the past 3 years. One time he would've earned only an extra $5k (based on Alvarez's numbers) for 205k buys and the other time was when he was the co-main for a JBJ card.

I don't believe any of these guys is getting more than the UFC HAS to pay them.

I would not assume that Robbie got any PPV $ from this card. Obviously I could be wrong.

I told you what I think. What any of us thinks doesn't really matter. I want to KNOW.

At the very least, it seems like more dudes than I thought get them.
