Thus far this Packers 3-0 record in the preseason is actually something to hang their hat on. I'm disregarding any sarcastic "preseason champs" banter because that's not what im getting at. It's not because I think it's foreshadowing that we will go undefeated in the regular season. As a GM, Coach, and fan it's the exact kind of 3-0 start you want to see with the way they're doing it. None of our stars are getting any substantial amount of reps. Rodgers played his only 2 series of the preseason last night and is already done for the preseason. Hundley only played a series or 2 before getting injured. Jordy obviously out. Cobb very limited. Matthews played only one or 2 series entire preseason. Still haven't seen Peppers. Ect.
Offensively our 3rd and 4th string QB's have gotten 96% of the reps. We let Kuhn go to keep only 1 FB this year in Ripkowski who looks to be a Kuhn prototype. Jared Cook looks great and I think we only keep 2 TE's instead of our usual 3. My theory is that it's so we keep an extra WR to have 6 or 7 on the roster after how depleted we got with injuries last season. Along with how close every WR is at the bottom of the depth chart. They all look so ready and so on par with eachother that it seems impossible to cut someone like Abbredaris. Especially when we might need them to be ready like last year.
Mainly it's showing how much depth and the amount of crazy youth there is on defense. This is easily the best defense we've had since we won the Superbowl. The defense is coming off a gigantic step forward last season. It starts with guys like Ha-Ha and Demarious Randall standing out big as rookies and continuing their star trajectory into only their 2nd and 3rd season. Quentin Rollins drafted right after Randall looks like a playmaking hit in the slot CB position. Loved Gunter, rated as the best CB in last seasons preseason but there simply wasn't enough room on the roster so he had to be placed on practice squad. Have only seen great things by Stanford ILB rookie Blake Martinez who we need to step up. Will help that Barrington is back and will be next to him after missing all of last season. And Fackrell looks like another TT draft hit I never saw coming as a pass rusher.
So my point is our stars have very little to do with this record. We've only given up 2 touchdowns this far. This is due to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year 1st string star prospects that we depend on continuing to develop, and they look to be doing just that. Along with our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string guys finishing the job with extremely solid play. The 3-0 record is the result of all the guys the stars on this team depend on to make plays or fill in for injuries in order to win a Super Bowl.
