Report: Fewer than 300 pairs of Lonzo Ball's sneakers sold on their first day for sale

(Big Baller Brand’s ZO2 Prime)

If one bit of sleuthing is to be believed, NBA draft prospect Lonzo Ball’s new line of sneakers may have hit the market with an inauspicious debut.

[Follow Ball Don’t Lie on social media: Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | Tumblr]

It was an expensive run of sleuthing, because you’ll recall that Ball’s Big Baller Brand ‘ZO2 Prime’ retails for $495, more than the sum total of Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James’ much-hyped rookie pairs of kicks combined. LaVar Ball, Lonzo’s father and Big Baller Brand el jefe, defended the cost as “what the shoe was worth,” last week, reminding critics that “when you are your own owner, you can come up with any price you want.”

Tracking a number of receipts (both from their own BBB shoe purchases and the invoices shared on social media), Matt Halfhill at Nice Kicks discovered that the initial first-day run on the shoes may have tapped out at somewhere below 300:

Out of the 328 transactions that happened on BigBallerBrand.com in the first 24 hours that the shoes were offered for sale, we tracked that a total of just 263 pairs of sneakers had sold in both signed and unsigned versions of the ZO2 Prime.

While we have no access to sales receipts, transactions or traffic data, we have been monitoring the inventory levels of the footwear listed on BigBallerBrand.com. After noting the initial product levels at the start and deducting the current units sold, we can confidently say that 210 pairs of unsigned ZO2 Primes had sold (103 pairs in sz 8.5 alone), along with 53 autographed ZO2 Primes.

The “53 autographed ZO2 Primes” mentioned run for $995.

All told, this means the Ball family cleared over $156,000 on its first day of business, not bad in the slightest for a company only now dipping its toe into the apparel game.

This pales in comparison to the “billions” that LaVar Ball – driving force behind BBB’s initial forays into whatever it is they are after – talked about in partial defense of the shoes’ $495 price tag. And this defense, lodged on the Dan LeBatard Show on Friday, certainly doesn’t help LaVar Ball’s ongoing image woes:

“The people that are complaining are the ones who can’t get the shoe and don’t want the shoe, and that’s fine because there’s a lot of people out here that want the shoe and can get the shoe.”

Still, a start is a start.

Nike and Adidas will strong arm him out of major retailers so he's going to need a distributor and a production partner or that $220 price point is not realistic when he's essentially making ID shoes on a per order basis

300 sales due to certain people wanting to support him.

Real question is how are sales gonna be in a couple of weeks. All the people with expendable bread will have already supported the shoe, then who is he gonna sell to? No ones saving up for these.

They might make a mill after this is over.

He's gotta be honest though, is this for him or his son?

His son isn't doing the interviews, his son lost out on a 2-5 million dollar shoe deal. And his son gotta wear those hideous things on the court too. Sounds like the shoes dropped so Lavar can give interviews.

I feel like what's hurting them the most right now is the fact that the shoes aren't set to ship until November. Assuming the shoes are actually very good quality (big assumption), a closer release date would prompt people to make unboxing videos, review videos, and just reviews in general. A few good reviews could really go a long way in terms of getting people who have disposable funds to buy the shoe. I'm sure there's a decent amount of people out there right now that wouldn't mind copping, but not when you gotta wait till November and without a single review.

Of course it's about him. I wouldnt be surprised if the business and whatever loans have been taken out are all in his son's name too because his credit is bad and Lonzo will bare the financial burden.

Every black person knows a clown *** old ***** like Lavar. Same yellow *** teeth and always talking about "back in my day" like he was a cross between MJ and Magic. That's why I ain't buying (literally and figuratively) nothing this man is selling. This ain't about his son AT ALL. He just wants the spotlight he never had as a player.

That they don't release til November plus no refunds and no exchanges.
That's some hustlers terms right there.

They should be promoting a PE colorway instead of rocking Jordan's right now too

Almost sounds like a kickstarter and many kickstarters turn out to be scams or the end product is totally not what the prototype was.

The possible success of this outweigh all the negative things people like you want to happen. This can create great opportunities for future players
