I only use chamois cream in long rides - anything 20ish is just bib shorts. I'm using Udder Cream right now which keeps my bits in good order.

Retired my favorite bibs this week though. They were Nike from about 7 years ago. I got them from a guy who was a Trek dealer - a sales sample as I never found them for sale. The fabric was nice and they fit just right.

On Thursday I was getting changed after work and thought I had dropped something on the front - turns out I was seeing skin!

Ordered 4 pairs yesterday - some good deals this time of year. I'm going to see which ones are best then get another pair the same and return the rest. Got a great deal on a couple of pairs that were $150 reduced to $70. They sound promising. Got some premium Pearl Izumi (got their LS jersey and gilet too) and Louis Garneau and a Hincapie base layer reduced to $ 12.

God nice bike, man. i used to have a GT performer with mags. switched em out to normal spoked wheels at one point though because they got too heavy for dirty jumping. but i still love how mags look on those GTs

felt was my first road bike, picked up the orbea carbon a few months later. sold felt to my coworker. but i haven't been riding in a minute. too busy with work.

switched bars to some easton EC90 (wrapped in red lizardskin tape), wheels to mavic open pros (shimano ultegra hubs) and tires to continental gatorskins.. which got a flat within 2 weeks. so much for the kevlar and the lining.

In the market for a bike. Digging this Trek Crossrip joint. Are Trek's any good or are they considered whack? I like that they're a Wisconsin company... I ride an old Trek now that I dig and I've rocked Cannondale's and Specialized in the past. I like doing 15-20 mile rides on the weekends. Some street some pavement and maybe a little grass/gravel so I figure a hybrid type bike is probably best for me.

On another note, what's the purpose of riding a fixie? How practical is a one gear bike with kickback breaks that you can't even coast with? Is the sole appeal of them the ability to skid? Enlighten me!

That not really what a hybrid is made for - they're basically a road bike but with a less extreme position - designed for urban commuting. You want something like a gravel grinder or a cross bike with less knobbly tyres. It will behave much like a road bike so would be fine for a decent ride but can take wider tyres for off road paths.

Trek are okay but only the very top models are made in Wisconsin nowadays. I've had a trek race bike for about 4 years and have been pleased with it. As good as any big brand.

We've been through this before but the point of a fixed wheel bike is efficiency - on the flat they are fast. They've always been popular with commuters too as they are simple - there's almost nothing to go wrong compared to a geared bike. They are practical in that sense but not if you are riding in hills.

They don't have "kickback brakes"(I assume you mean a coaster brake) they just have a direct drive without a freewheel. Skidding is just a byproduct of that - not the purpose of it.

Did you buy new and what brand is that?

I'm looking at some 29ers myself too, but the one's I like are like $3K - $12K

My wife would have a fit I go out and buy an S-Works or something

Looking at the cannondale synapse 5 alloy. I think i can get a discount but if there's anything cheaper y'all would recommend, that would be awesome.

Can anybody recommend me a bike type and maybe a few good brands to look out for that type of bike.

Will be used almost entirely pavement/ city type riding. Minus rolling over some grass here and there where there's no sidewalk. Just looking for something that would be comfortable for me riding for long periods of time. Also have a lot of steep roads near me.

Looking to spend under 250, will probably be looking on craigslist.

If you want comfort you probably want a mountain bike and put narrower tires on it.

Racing bikes are faster - but they're made to go fast not for comfort - they're also not as durable on crappy city roads.

You'll also get more gears on a mtb so hills are easier - but slower.

There will be lots on Craigslist etc. 250 would get you something okay - just budget on another 50 for brake pads, tires etc.

Specialized, Giant, Trek are all okay as are other brands - just avoid the sort of crap you'd get in Walmart. Maine bike shops sell used bikes too - you'll pay a bit more but it will be looked after.

Well this is my first bike project, I got an 83 schwinn world as an gift
I pretty much stripping to the frame and rebuilding/customizing it.they
Now I'm not too knowledgable on bikes, so when looking for a crankset single speed not a fixie I want to coast and not constantly peddle what type of set do I buy?? Are they one in the same??
