The German Olympic Sports Confederation on Thursday said Patrick Moster, sporting director of the German Cycling Federation, "violated Olympic values" with his remarks.
Moster was cheering on German rider Nikias Arndt, who was trailing Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier of Eritrea and Azzedine Lagab of Algeria during a time trial, when he used a racial slur.
"Get the camel drivers!" Moster shouted multiple times to Arndt, Deutsche Welle reported.
He later apologized for the comments.
"In the heat of the moment and with the overall burden that we have here at the moment, my choice of words was not appropriate," Moster said to Germany news agency DPA. "I am extremely sorry and can only offer my sincere apologies. I didn't want to offend anyone."
Arndt distanced himself from Moster, saying he was "appalled" by the coach's comments.
"Such words are not acceptable," Arndt wrote in a statement, according to Deutsche Welle.
"The Olympics and cycling stand for tolerance, respect and fairness," the cyclist added. "I represent these values 100% and take my hat off to all the great athletes who have come from all over the world here in Tokyo."
Deutsche Welle reported that commentator Florian Nass expressed shock when hearing the remarks in real time.
"If I've really understood what he was shouting, that was totally wrong," Nass said. "Words fail me. Something like that has no place in sport."

this dude has had all the talent in the world from when he was young as hell, to the point that he went pro young with the thoughts of being the next phelps
but his dad has been his only coach.. and I think his dad wasn’t even a coach prior to coaching his own kid
then he does this specialized training where everything is a race or race paced
hell you could just look at his stroke and see how changes need to be made to increase efficiency.. but I’m sure he’s been told or heard he needs a legit coach and simple shh he could/should be doing
but like this virus and the vaccine, society on the whole is being told simple things and yet are having a hard time listening to advice that is for their own good

problem is, team USA needs him.. until a guy comes along that can be 58 low or best case 57 high in the 100 breast, they need him for the medley relay
but dude needs to move on from his dad and just get better advice on his technique and his race strategy.. and if he’s going swim beyond 50s, needs to change his training

the girl who Australian women should have had on the 4 x 200, 17 year old who went 1:55.1 on the leadoff of there prelims was “17-year-old Mollie O’Callaghan anchored in a blazing 52.3. That is actually faster than one flying start leg from Australia’s 4×100 free relay that won Olympic gold and set the world record earlier this week. And outside of Australia, a 52.3 would have been the fastest split on all but two other relays in that final.”

hell given how good he is at the 2back, 2free and 2 fly.. he’d be better off trying go after the 2 IM
i think for schooling he had that goal and that was driving him, he accomplished it in spectacular fashion.. and then I assume he started taking his foot off the gas.. There were stories of him missing practices or not practicing hard that next year at texas and it showed in his 200 fly and I assume it just got progressive wors… I know he got paid out by the government and then he got sponsor deals over in Asia
