Never realized but boy do those go hard with those jerseys
I think that was the last game to be on Astro turf, like ever. I maybe mistaken. I know for sure that that was the last super bowl game on astroturf.I remember in the 2002 Super Bowl, some of the players from the rams were wearing the ginger 16’s.
2005 was the last which was 5 years after these releasedI think that was the last game to be on Astro turf, like ever. I maybe mistaken.
Even though the build of this shoe is 21 years old. They surprised me on court.
You probably won’t get a firm answer. My guess is they were simply trying to grow the brand. MJ wasn’t out there every day wearing the current mainline model and supporting the sales. Instead they had lots of Jordan brand athletes, so it made sense to have a variety of different models out there. Here's a question for some of the older members, and I don't know if there is an answer. Starting with the 16, why were there significantly different versions of the same model? You had the base 16 then the 16+. On top of that, the lows were very different besides the sole and midsole. This continued with the 17 +, 18.5, and 19 se. The lows fore the 17 and 18 were fairly consistent with their mid counter parts as much as they could have been since the mids both had gaudy shrouds. The 19 low was almost a completely different shoe!
That makes sense. I remember seeing the xvi for the first time during the dunk competition that year. Was amazed at how good they looked. Keep in mind I had recently gotten the space jams for Christmas and these were that great. I had the cherry wood pair as well, no where near as nice as the black and red or the navy pair. The gingers were one of the worst colorways released by jb at that time. I wish the white and black + samples released. Those would have given the regular xvis a run for their money. There's alot that can be done with the model, hope to get new colorways and a proper black red retro. You probably won’t get a firm answer. My guess is they were simply trying to grow the brand. i make it on every 2KThey need to just release that white shroud/black upper with black-patent-toe sample from years ago. I don’t even know how that wasn’t a released OG colorway. I’d buy those immediately.
The Black/Red pair is long overdue for a retro (not at $250 though). I remember seeing them in Slam with MJ sitting in the chair on the court.
I don’t recall there being any official statement, but I believe the intention was to strip the model down a bit and move it further toward the performance end of the spectrum than the standard model. Here's a question for some of the older members, and I don't know if there is an answer.
