STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

congrats! is this your first?

timbo - this texas method. you lift only 3x/week? do you personally do anything else in terms of physical exercise a few more days a week in addition to lifting? that monday lift looks brutal. never did power snatches and my wrists are too inflexible for power cleans. as a whole, the routine looks awesome. really considering making the move to that for at least a 4-6 month spin.
While the program only calls for 3 lifts a week, I sometimes split things out or add in an extra day to do some bro work for fun. For instance, I sometimes split the volume day into two consecutive days i.e. Sunday and Monday, especially if I'm hungover on Sunday, then do the recovery day Wednesday and the intensity day on a Friday. I dunno what the version of the program that you read called for, but you can also do the deadlifts on the intensity day rather than the volume day. That's what I do. You can also separate out the deadlifts to a separate day. For me, the big thing is to have the 5x5 volume work and the 5-rep max set on another day with the recovery day thrown in. While I don't support making your own program from scratch just because you can, I think it's a good idea to modify a program to your own needs if necessary.

My version of the routine doesn't include dictated olympic work, but I do explosiveness here and there, sometimes on its own day.

this industry is shadier than the porn biz

only guy i believe is layne norton as far as natty, i like the guy but doug miller for example.............nope sorry Jking.

I have no idea what the hell happened in the last 24 hrs here...........

Can we just forget the whole crossfit debacle happened? It's just pointless bickering. There are plenty of repetitive discussions in this thread that I find frustrating, but I've learned to ignore em.

not to rehash the topic, but i was looking forward to you shedding some light on the misinformation of crossfit. you seem to be really knowledgable about different aspects of fitness and i would really like to hear your take on it.

.  There are +/-'s to crossfit imo but so many people are misinformed from both sides of the argument.  Bad form is bad form and it is present in just abt every gym/box/fitness center in America. Work out to whatever your goals are, don't bash someone just because they workout in a different way than you do, too many other things to worry abt.

Btw the way I workout I can go kill a PL meet/WOD/Open/ or stage.  You don't have to classify yourself to a specific fitness world. Any type of workout should be more than welcome in this thread tho, the entire theme is abt bettering ourselves through training.

i dont wanna rustle cf jimmies when we recently had this discussion in there, lets drop it

http://fitnesspainfree.com/3-reasons-kipping-pullups-cause-injuries/ here is a good article

ill stick to standard pull up

Audi my man, can we agree that ANY movement when done with incorrect form can lead to injury?...or does everyone in a gym is a guru and lifts with perfect form?...here is te thing...assuming you have good coaches, they will let you know how to improve your form, in the gym, NOONE tells you what you are doing wrong, they rather snap a pic to laugh at you behind your back bro....

But it looks like 90% of CF movements need perfect form. All these snatches, clean pulls, hang cleans....you really need proper form to do them correctly. There's more room for error in squats/deads/bench. Rarely do you see people doing it with perfect/good form. And seriously though, whats the ratio of coaches to members in crossfit gyms?

Where is there room for error in a squat, deadlift, or bench press? Also, why is it that CF exercises need perfect form?

There isnt much a difference between powerlifting movements and Olympic movements in terms of the degrees of freedom in form. You need good to great form to safely execute a squat just like you need good to great form to safely execute a power clean.

There really isnt much room for error in a squat, deadlift, or bench. Youve got a weight compressing your spine during a squat and a weight extended above your chest/neck in a bench press. Personally, I dont see much freedom in those movements.

I have no idea what the hell happened in the last 24 hrs here...........

not to rehash the topic, but i was looking forward to you shedding some light on the misinformation of crossfit. you seem to be really knowledgable about different aspects of fitness and i would really like to hear your take on it.

For starters, getting back to the pregnancy topic..... Its perfectly safe to exercise during pregnancy no matter what if its CF or not. Obviously depending on how far along the pregnancy is, the exercises will have to be modified and as the 3rd trimester approaches certain exercises are contraindicated, but theyre mostly prone movements.

As ive said before, I personally dont like Crossfit but.... I get it. I understand why people would want to exercise that way and in that environment. Its not for me strictly because of personal preferences on how I like to exercise and what I exercise for, but I understand the appeal.

The bad reputation comes from a small sample of people we have all either come in contact with or seen from a far. There are without a doubt some elitist Crossfiters and those who feel like its the ONLY or BEST way to get into shape. The truth is, those types of people can be found within every exercise community. Youll find bodybuilders who look down on some people because theyre not "big enough". Youll find powerlifters who seem elitist because they can squat 800 lbs.

Crossfit exploded into popularity and the mainstream so quickly that those without any real knowledge of the activity had no choice but to immediately shoot it down without ever researching it first. Like anything that goes from nothing to something quick, the easy thing to do is be closed minded about the topic. The hard part is opening your mind up to the possibility of it.

There are definitely some aspects of Crossfit that im not a big fan of, but there are also things I like about it. Technical lifts under fatigue and time isnt the best idea, but the fact that the technical lifts are being done at all is respected.

Atleast theres some science behind Crossfit, which is more than I can say for the BB community.

"Abs are made in the kitchen." I hate that phrase cause I've been struggling to drop this layer of fat on my stomach.

I'm of Caribbean decent and one of our main dishes is rice. I've been trying to limit it but its tough cause I don't eat much of anything else.

An example of what I might have in a day:

Breakfast - 3-4 eggs, fruit.
Post workout - Protein shake
Lunch - rice, chicken breast
Dinner - chicken cesar wrap
Snack - Protein shake

Anytime I can add/or remove?

Has there ever been anyone in here posting their success stories?...like before and after pics other than lucky?...or is selfies also taboo in here...word is that's what got Lucky banned from this thread :nerd:
I think I was the first one. I remember when the OG thread was made and we made "Team Fitness" and Lurking and the other cat, I think Joe Camel used to drop knowledge consistently. The vibe was really dope in there. I believe 562 also had a huge weight lost process.

:x can't defend that crap...

Brb picking from plethora of dumb **** YouTube videos about dudes who think they know what they talking about when it comes to lifting..

Bruh what the....

what state of mind... (trainer / gym) :smh:
First and foremost, that crossfit trainer has no experience extensive enough to put together a workout plan for the lady with the knee problems. Crossfit is good when you get trained by someone who genuinely cares about your health mentally and physically. A bad crossfit trainer is just as bad as those fake karate instructors, just out to get your money, and have you flap your limbs around like a crazy tube man on the side of the highway

Im all for whatever people wanna do but trainers like that happen when it becomes the "cool" thing to do CF

there's bad trainers in any type of instruction..

hopefully time will weave out bad CF Tners

Wow talk about bad luck..

"But on Sunday, as Ogar lifted hundreds of pounds of weights first to his waist, and then up over his head, he bailed on the lift, letting the bar bounce to the floor behind him. There, it bounced against another set of weights, came up, and hit Ogar in the back, critically injuring his spine."

This dude is lying through his teeth though:

"It's the world we live in. They make stuff ridiculously expensive, and CrossFit gyms are not cash cows," Hathcock said."

That is beautiful a community is gathering around him and donating, god speed to his recovery and faithfully he will be walking again one day.

That's real awesome of people to donate and help the guy out.

This threads community was definitely at its best back in '08-'10. That one dude who ended up getting in shape and got semi popular. iLLest? So much has changed. So many new fads.

Was there a video of that injury? Searched around but couldn't find one, there has to be though if it was some crossfit competition right?
