This is what has made me hate George Lucas for so long. There is TONS of material out there, TONS. They could make a new movie every 3 years til the end of time. Seriously, I have every single one of those books I listed, and have read them all. They all translate onto film. Now that doesn't mean you would have to do a book film for film, you could combine multiple books into a film, or a trilogy, or whatever, but you should be able to see Star Wars 47 someday EASY. (we may not be alive by then, but hey. ) And Lucas was the one that was always blockin it.

When he did 1-3, and said he didn't have time for 7-9, I wanted to kill him. He's so full of ****. Those stories are already written, all he'd have to do is stop ******g around with the originals and make the films every 3 years, he'da been close to being done by now already. Phantom was 99, Clones 02, Sith 05, he coulda done 7 in 08, 8 in 11 ,and 9 shoulda been out in 2014.

But oh well, I won't bash the dude anymore, we're getting what we want, FINALLY. AND, without his dumb ***, hopefully no more Jar Jar Binks type ****. Disney worries me with the "kiddieness" angle, but they didn't over kid it for Avengers and the Marvel franchise, no reason they should do it to Star Wars. They can easily still keep movies in the PG-13 area and still have plenty of darkness in it.

This is really shocking. Why would Lucas sell something he himself founded. He could have stepped down and still had other people run the company.

This is a Power Move by Disney. 4 Billion dollars is a STEAL. For the entire Lucas Film Company? 

That's Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Not to mention Lucasfilm has been the leading the industry in special effects since they were founded.

They're going to make that 4 Billion back back so fast.

I guarantee the films are going to great. Disney did justice to both Pixar and Marvel properties. 

We also expect to create significant value in the film business. We plan to release the first new Star Wars film in 2015, and then plan to release one film every two to three years. These films will be released and distributed as part of our target slate of 8-10 live-action films per year, and will augment Disney’s already strong creative pipeline for many years to come. Lucasfilm has not released a Star Wars film since Revenge of the Sith  in 2005. However, adjusted for inflation, as well as growth in both international box office and 3D, we estimate the three most recent Star Wars  films would have averaged about $1.5 billion in global box office in today’s dollars. This speaks to the franchise’s strength, global appeal and the great opportunity we have in the film business.

We also expect to utilize Star Wars  in other businesses including Parks & Resorts, in games and in our television business. These initiatives were also considered in our valuation.

Feels like Star Wars is finally going to get the treatment it deserves.

The next 3 movies are sequels set after Episode 6. Apparently Lucas planned 4 more trilogies since the 80's.

Mark Hamill  has stated that Lucas told him in 1976, during filming in the desert of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, that four Star Wars  trilogies were planned. Lucas suggested Hamill could have a cameo role in Episode IX, which might be filmed in 2001.[sup][15][/sup][sup][16][/sup]  A Time  magazine  story in March 1978, quoting Lucas, also contained the assertion there would be 10 further Star Wars  films after Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.[sup][17][/sup]  A New Hope  and Empire Strikes Back  producer Gary Kurtz  was also aware of proposed story elements for Episodes VII to IX before 1980.

I just realized.... they will finally release the ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy on Bluray (not that BS George Lucas Greedo shooting first, etc). Today my friends is a win for the Rebel Alliance!

enough of the lucas bashing. please cut that crap out. the prequels were NOT hot trash......were they underwhelming? did my imagination expect something more fun, more intellectual, more thorough?  Of course!  but my imagination was also greatly intrigued by the newfound fact that Darth Vader made c3p0 and therefore had a hand in his own redemption......man the prequels have some mind blowing stuff in it if u just need to get passed jar jar and the weak natalie portman/hayden christiansen dynamic.

Lucas is one of the greatest directors ever simply due to the fact that he  wrote and directed the GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE - star wars episode 4: a new hope.

I just read the "episode 7" book last week. It definitely needs to be the movie.

Star Wars was my entire childhood growing up. Like most diehards, I hated the prequel trilogy. I'm a bit reserved that this may turn out bad, but I'm extremely hyped for this. I wonder what direction they're gonna go with since the EU is so damn big.

dont worry, be happy.  disney has some amazing talent at their disposa (writers/composers etc), they are going to do this series justice i can just about guarantee it......im beyond geeked this is incredible.  

greatest of all time? Sit down, kay. The only film tht was solid through and through was Empire. ANH was ok, but Jedi was bad. The prequels werent bad, but they suffered from horrible casting and script choices. And I def agree. Cut out jar jar, and recast both anakins and the trilogy is great.

Lucas cant write dialogue. It isnt his strong suit. He needs to stick to consulting on the characters and world.

sorry but i am not stoked for this at all disney is just going to run the star wars name into the ground just like it has done with the marvel name look at the avengers it could have been so much better of a movie with 10 minutes less action and 10 minutes more story telling.

the new iron man 3 trailer looks like a straight dark knight rises rip-off i realise disney has so much source material to work with within the star wars universe but i think its time to stop tarnishing a film franchise and just let it stay classic.

soon disney is just going to put out sequels to movies much like the call of duty franchise but with dudes just thirsting over the next sequel because its a sequel to the last.

The haters are always just more vocal when it comes to anything they dont like. And I've always respected George in that, for good or bad, he's always stuck to HIS vision.

But on a brighter note, my body is so open for the summer of 2013. Avengers 2 AND Episode VII? Life ain't so bad now.
