.

Just do a free trial on Audible and listen to them. There is two months free and they give you two books.

At least in clone wars they hit shots. But the droids are the bumbling idiots.

Well Clonetroopers and Stormtroopers aren't the same. By the time Ep. IV comes around, the Clones are too old since they age faster and the Stormtroopers are recruits.

What Star Wars novels do you guys recommend? I read one when I was really young and enjoyed it but I can't even remember the name.

I know there's a ton, I almost prefer something that doesn't heavily involve main characters from the movies and I'm big on protege/training type themes if that helps make recommending something easier. :lol

I remember having the Thrawn Trilogy on tape when I was a kid haha, loved listening to those. I've been looking at lists online and there are so many books out there, not sure which ones I want to read. I did notice however that the list of "canon" novels isn't very long anymore. What would you guys say the "must reads" are for a Star Wars fan. I'm not particular about there being characters from the films in them.

Do you care if they are part of the new canon, or are you interested in the books of the last 20 years that are now considered non canon?

Darth Bane Trilogy sounds great gonna by the first book on amazon.

Personally I don't care if the book is no longer considered canon. I take back what I said about characters from the movies I guess I'm most interested in writing and the story.

This is a list I have of stuff I've read and I try to have it in order as best as possible. There are certainly books here or there I might not have added, like the X-Wing series (because I haven't read them yet)

Again, these are now considered Legends, except for the books that detail the movies themselves.

I'll break up some of the books in terms of connectedness, etc. For instance:

27 BBY
Outbound Flight by Timothy Zahn

9 ABY
Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn
Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn
The Last Command by Timothy Zahn

19 ABY
Specter of the Past by Timothy Zahn
Vision of the Future by Timothy Zahn

His work is basically what started it all. That trilogy in the middle is what started the novel series we know today. (comics were the actual beginning of the EU)

Basically the rebuilt Jedi Order series. (without the origins of that rebuilding)

I'd like to see an origins type movie based on the sith on their home planet of korriban.

I like it.

Essentially could introduce a form of KOTOR, and if they don't want to use the characters already established, they could create new ones, and start the story over, in a sense.

But the end result would be, Sith v Jedi for all the marbles.

Love it. I hope they do it in time, 10+ years, whenever they feel they have run their course with the other stories they develop, and want to do somethin different while semi sort of using some old EU content.

I think it can be done, just need a director that has interest in that stuff.

It would be absolutely amazing.

Especially cuz both sides would still have force abilities lost with time

Do you care if they are part of the new canon, or are you interested in the books of the last 20 years that are now considered non canon?

Thanks for all the info, as far as them being canon or not, I'm not quite sure. I mean the majority of them are great books right? What's the consensus now about reading books no longer considered canon, would you say they're still worth it? Also, I'm guessing the Thrawn Trilogy is no longer canon?

Def worth it. Their are of course some books that are slow, or boring, but for the most part, they are really well done.

Thrawn trilogy alone is one of the greatest book series I've ever read. Those books are tremendous, and introduce characters that will be lore, as legends or canon.

Towards the end, there is some great stuff, but not everyone was excited. All depends which characters you truly connect with. Me? I loved them. Some parts were lame, but the general storyline was outstanding, and that is most important.

I say read what you want. I'd never dissuade someone from reading a good book

I would definitely read some of the non canon books still. They are still great books. Yoy just have to keep in mind that they aren't considered part of the official story.

Darth Plaguis
The Dark Lord Trilogy
And The Thrawn Trilogy are all must reads by any Star Wars fan imo.

Oh, you mean Labyrinth, Sith, and Rise of Vader, right?

Pretty much anything by Zahn and Luceno were great.
