Isn't it said that he took Dawn back to Ashara Dayne tho ? How would he have gotten his hands on that and how else would Arthur have died had that confrontation not happen

I have a question which I'm sure you can (and will?) answer. It's about the Tower of Joy. The image we get from Ned's description is pretty powerful. But it doesn't make sense. The top three kingsguards, including the lord commander amd the best knight in ages, Ser Arthur Dayne are present there. Lyanna is in the tower, she asked Ned to promise him something. This, so says the general consensus us little Jon Snow, who is Lyanna's and Rhaegar's. No sense denying this
However, what are the Kingsguards doing fighting Eddard? Eddard would never hurt Lyanna, nor her child. The little one would be safe with Eddard as well, him being a close relative. So I ask you, was there someone else with Lyanna and Jon?
You'll need to wait for future books to find out more about the Tower of Joy and what happened there, I fear.
I might mention, though, that Ned's account, which you refer to, was in the context of a dream... and a fever dream at that. Our dreams are not always literal.
Also, did the Kingsguards know what was in the Tower?
Certainly.
You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in WINDS OF WINTER? Quite a lot, actually. The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.
And no, just to spike any ******** rumors, changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done. See the icon up above? Monkey is still on my back... but he's growing, he is, and one day...
I think he is just about done. I think his revisions are the cause of the delay. Sample chapters arent a very good indicator as to his progress.GRRM released another excerpt from Winds of Winter "ARIANNE":

I appreciate the excerpt but I'd rather the book in its entirety.
Now I'm positive GRRM isn't anywhere near finished with Winds.
From his blog:
Yall still forget the wait from book 4-5 was longer.Yeah GRRM is trolling at epic levels by not dropping this book
If anything season 6 makes me want the book to come out even more. Show is cool in all but not a replacement for books. I just wish i had learned about Jon snows fate and TOJ (when they fully reveal it to us in episode 5) via books. So many characters and storylines in the books that I am anxious to learn more about. Like whats the deal with Darkstar and who is Septa Lemore.^^ You're saying that as if it's a good thing to keep fans waiting 20+ years for a book series to be complete.
It's not about being antsy, it's about him doing everything else under the sun instead of finishing a book series he started writing in 1991. That's ridiculous, imo.
I think it was Barbados Slim that said S6 is moving in a direction where he's not even concerned w/ the books anymore & I'm starting to feel the same way.
Not attacking you btw
The one thing i didnt like about episode 3 was the way they chose to depict the fight scene. Ser Arthur Dayne didnt wield 2 swords, he used Dawn which is a greatsword. Also Ned didnt have Ice, the sword he used looked like Ice but again Ice is a greatsword not a one handed sword.
Sword
Great Sword
To non Book readers which the show is catering to 2 Swords > 1
Would've been nice to see Dawn tho
I don't know where Ice was at the time of TOJ in books but it was definitely his by rights at that time. Regardless Dayne had Dawn which was a great sword and that's what he used. And he was the best swordsman in all of Westeros with it. Hard to imagine someone fighting with a sword that size but I guess that's how it was. I think Valyrian steel was lighter than regular steel. Heartsbane the ancestral valyrian steel sword of House Tarly is also a greatswordFighting with ice doesnt seem practical for ned against someone of daynes caliber. People are wondering if he even had possession of ice at the time.
But i think the 2 swprds bothered me the most also.
Great scene. But as said by jamie himself "i never understood why some knights felt the need to have 2 swords"
Which would be contradictory to the admiration he had for dayne.
