So, what happens if you just decide to walk out on a restaurant bill?

We took my son to a local Olive Garden yesterday (He loooves their salad). Someone (a senior citizen) pulled the fire alarm to walk out on the bill... They were required to have everyone evacuate the building & have the fire dept come to clear the alarm & say everything is ok. Half of the customers ended up walking off without paying.

We didn't feel right doing it but they ended up giving us a free appetizer & cut our bill in half because it took about 25 mins... Left the waiter a bigger tip than usual (he did a great job anyway, bruh had our next bowl of salad before we finished the previous one)...

By & large, servers have to pay but some places may have specific rules that dictate certain situations. In the case I mention, the servers weren't responsible for yesterday's situation but they said they normally have to pay at a discounted rate.

Was at some restaurant and some people did it. Cops got called and showed up pretty quick.

There is a diner around my way that is only open from 6am-230pm because people used to do this all of the time. That and because they are always getting robbed.

Now you have to give your credit card/pay cash for your meal even before it comes.
Damn that sounds like a real hood spot

. But yeah, the bottom line is it's theft. Too bad you don't like the food, still gotta pay. Now as far as service, then tipping is on how the service was.

Some teen in Alexandria Va got shot and killed over this a couple years ago. Tried to skip out on a bill at IHOP, cops were called, the teens tried to flee the scene in a car, cop shot at the car, one of them was hit and eventually died.

All over a $26 check.

I imagine it would be like trying to walk out of a store with unpaid merchandise.

This girl that works with me also has a part time job as a server at chili's. One of our customers went to eat alone at chili's and she happened to be his server. Dude skipped out in the bill and when the restaurant called the police she told the the police the guys first and last name. Cops went to his house and collected the money for the bill lol. He still comes into my job and doesn't know how the cops busted him haha

Not that it matters, but the dude is in his 50s, married with kids. His daughter comes in to my job as well and she's hot.

:lol Son, that's grimey!

How does this work in a club? Who pays the bill?

In clubs, a lot of times (if you're getting bottle service), they'll take your CC beforehand.

Old people be gangsta too

. That's even worse because they get senior discounts

i've never been in a club or a bar (unless its a bar i go to very very often) where they dont take a CC or even an ID for a tab.

and to add on to my walking out on a 45 minute check wait in the Caribbean, i had a cruise ship to catch. still doesn't justify it but i wasnt getting stuck in whereveriwas... :lol

it is. having to wait for a check doesn't justify it, either :lol

:lol I can understand the frustration of never being waited on or returned with the bill but it still shouldn't be done. Never done it, mom raised me right, but I know my father has.

Dine and dash was what its called around my way...did it a couple times my freshman year of college just for the fun :{

I know that karma has come back to me. Def regret it

i've done it. Was with a group sitting in the outdoor area of a restaurant and we asked for the check...waited for 20 minutes for the check...took the card out and waited for another 20 minutes.....so I ran out of dambs and said eff this im going if they don't wanna get paid..got up and left and everyone else followed. I still go there because they have the best beer in the world, its just on that particular day the service was terrible. This wasn't in the US btw.
I don't know why, but this makes sense to me. You want to pay and they don't wanna take it? Fine by me.

And I work at a restaurant...Servers should be attentive to a request no matter how busy.

My buddies and I did once in HS... at Dennys :lol

We were't intending too, but we were there for so long, our waitress' shift was over and we never got a replacement so we just waiting and waiting, finally we just walked out the door :smokin

Wouldn't do again though

Me and my high school basketball team did this once, I felt horrible

It was at a Dennys in Turlock, CA. Think it was 13 of us that just bounced...

THIS

Only difference was it was me and my wife (girlfriend at the time), her friend and the friend's boyfriend. We were like 15-16, we had sneaked out, got a hotel room and toured the city the whole night. I had a credit card with an $800 limit, didn't realize how much we had spent. The meal came to like $120, the card got declined, the lady was like "I have to get my manager wait here". We dipped out with the quickness and the dishwasher chased us but he got smoked like it was nothing.

Good times
