Snowboarders Please Enter..

Doubt anyone on my rides trollhaugen on Fridays or do they? Anyway I'll be in the park tonight :hat

Just started boarding this year (Been 4x and seen major improvements) Never rented, just said Eff it and spent money on gear. Good investment imo

Everything worked out since I have a few friends who just started as well. Copped a RIDE board

Nice. As long as you're having fun you'll naturally improve. Riding with really good riders help too because you have little brother syndrome. :lol at least I do.

I agree about riding with better riders making you better, can be applied to almost anything in life too.

I havent even had a chance to get out this year, and dont think i will unfortunately.  At least mountain bike season is right around the corner.

on my way up to killington for the weekend after work

i'm a skier though

killington is where i ride when i travel to vt (my buddies got a house up there).  Great mountain and great night life.  You've got to head up there in the summer/fall and do some downhill mountain biking, its insane.

One of my friend's (Pretty sick at boarding) took us on an "easy" hill which turned out to be Double black diamond. I attempted, fell and slid down 70% of the mountain :{:lol

Yup I go up during the summer and fall too... It's pretty much a ghost town anytime other than winter but it's nice to get away and the landscape is incredible

I love the summer/fall up there you are right about the ghost town feel though. Not much nightlife at all during those times. That's when we like to head up with a big group and just bbq drink smoke bike hike etc.

You'll end up looking like Henrik Harlaut which is bad for everybody.
Henrik is one of the best things to ever happen to skiing, though.

I have much respect for his talent and his brass.
But his clothing choices could use some help

Ski like Harlaut? Yes
Dress like Harlaut? No

Nobody looks good in size XXXL pants, but on Skiers its laughing stock

Jesus man First season and already 5 boards?

I've had like 4 boards my entire 13 years in this thing

But anyway great on having a Burton place nearby. All i got is a North Face outlet near me but I never really dug their stuff. All I'm really looking to get new is some pants that look like legit denim. if anyone knows some brands that have those let me know, I know 686 has them as my current pants are denim but they're super baggy. I've gotten more fit and the style isn't that baggy anymore

Copped a season pass from Mountain Creek. Sold some stuff to get some body armor as well.

Let me know if anyone is heading to the Creek this season.

Been boarding for 5 years, im pretty decent flying down the mountain, no tricks or nothing yet.

Broke my foot Feb 2014 so I didnt board last season, had a bad binding and took a bad fall and got myself a Jones fracture, same fracture Kevin Durants been recovering from. Its no joke.

man my feet and ankles feel like bricks smh i definitely need new bindings and boots...

using a ride board...not sure what year

El Nino better lay waste to Tahoe, I think almost every resort here dropped prices in passes because it was so bad last season and even apologized

^I'm hoping El Nino brings rain for two weeks straight.

Looks like the new 2016 gear is here. Still a great time to buy last seasons gear.

Snowboarders and skiers - for someone that hasn't tried either, which one would be easier and more fun? Headed to Hokkaido this dec and we have 3-4 days in the slopes.

I've been reading that skiing is easier to learn, but harder to master. While snowboarding is harder to learn and easier to master. I dont plan on mastering any, just want to have fun and not fall too much. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

This is a tough question to answer, because as always, individual experience may differ. But I'll try to answer in a useful way.
(about me: 25+ years of ski experience in Europe and Western US, 3 years of intermediate snowboarding)

First, a question for you: Do you have any experience skateboarding or surfing?
The physicality is pretty different, but if you're comfortable on a board, you may find that the transition to snowboarding is easier, because there are some similar concepts like dominant foot, goofy, frontside/backside etc.

With that out of the way, my opinion is that your first 3-4 days of skiing will be more enjoyable than your first days of riding.
Most people find it much easier to be able to stand on skis. Simply maneuvering around on the chairlift, trail etc. are much simpler with skis
The skill gap between being able to stand up on skis, and learning to snowplow slowly is pretty short

In many ways, snowboarding is probably a more intuitive, natural sport. The movements are simple, and there is far less equipment to get tangled in.
The boots are comfortable, and the gear weighs a lot less. These are big plusses for people just trying to enjoy a beginners weekend.
The downside to learning to snowboard is that, unless you really are a natural, you will be wiping out a ton your first day or two, and wiping out hard

Given your goal of not wanting to fall too much, Id lean towards skiing, which is not to say you won't fall. But i think you'll be spending less time picking yourself up off the snow

I would suggest snowboarding, but obviously I'm bias. I can't speak on sking, but snowboarding was pretty easy to learn for me. I would suggest looking up some youtube videos. so you can get some of the concepts down. it makes learning on the hill much easier. It took me 3 runs to get the concepts down then it was pretty easy from there. Also lucky for you I've heard the Japan has crazy powder so falling will be like falling in pillows

Got my pass. :hat and booked a trip. Kind of want to upgrade my setup. I've been riding the hell out of an old m3 discord I came up on for nostalgia sake but it's gotta go. :lol

My roommate has a winch so we're about to be setting it off in the yard this winter. :lol :hat
