Selling Out

I despise/never watch his movies but how is Tyler Perry a sellout?

Amazing how much people bemoan Tyler Perry for negative, stereotypical images then laud rappers, actors, and these ******ed *** Vh1 shows. Hypocrites. It's also hilarious how quickly having any opinion different from the majority will get you called names, while at the same time we are trying our damnedest to convince everyone who isn't black that we aren't monolithic.

However a guy I would consider a sellout is "Reverend" Jesse Lee Peterson though. His fortune and fame is made out of simply criticizing black people and portraying us in a negative light to an all white, typically Conservative (to say the least) audience. For example, he is spiritual advisor to Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. Critizing in and of itself, I have no problem with. We are certainly not beyond reproach or underserving of such in many cases, but again he is the type of guy who does it not to foster any change or discussion, in fact doesn't even talk TO then people he is talking ABOUT most of the time, just likes to use really inflamatory words and statements to get attention.

In case you forgot, he is the dude who said black people would turn the Earth to a ghetto if white people found a way to go to the moon, called New Orleans citized "welfare pampered and immoral," said this about Obama, "Barack Obama hates white people, especially white men" and that "Barack Obama is Jeremiah Wright Jr. He is the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus! He embodies the aspirations of every left-wing black group that wants to tear down this country and take power away from the "oppressive" white man. He's not an obvious race hustler like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson; but Obama is a smooth pathological liar—with a wicked heart", thanked white people for slavery, among many of his gems.

He is also the guy in the commercial for BET's upcoming news show, "Don't Sleep" who is saying, "I used to be a Democrat but I escaped the plantation."

Even outside of being black and famous and what comes with that, he is just a terrible human being. All of his beliefs on any subject of importance demonstrate that.

at all of the Tyler Perry pictures. Yeah, I don't care about his hustle and how he came up. He has the ability to portray blacks in a better way, but chooses to **** it up with Madea and the typical stereotypes in most of his movies.

This is my problem with dude...well, that and the ending of "Why Did I Get Married Too" (the last straw for me, blame my woman). Made me dislike Janet for a little...how you kill your son and husband indirectly and get The Rock as a consolation prize? Oh, and that ubiquitous "everything will be great tomorrow as long as you believe" message grates on me from any source, so when you consider that that's the main concept in his works, he's really just not for me.

He's not teaching me nada, but think of the average hood dude that aint going to school or is uninterested in gaining some type of "you gotta do better" knowledge. This is right up their alley.

You only seeing the Madea character. Many of the characters are lawyers, doctors, realtors that struggle with "real" world problems that people from the hood can relate with. In the end of the movie, everybody magically learns a lesson that they should be moving and doing better and I cant hate that

You would be right if his movies were made for the average hood dude. They are not. They are made for single, black Christian women who make up his fanbase.

Rule of Business: Cater to your fans. They buy your product.

Watch your language champ. To answer your question I'll copy and paste my comments from the 'Karl Malone Appreciation" thread in S&T.
To answer your question, Karl Malone is a house ***** because he tried to blend in with the white people of Utah. There's nothing wrong with a black person wearing cowboy boots, wearing a cowboy hat or driving a 18 wheeler, those are all things Karl Malone did or still does and some would define that as him trying to be white, which I don't wholeheartedly agree. However, Karl Malone is a house ***** because he is a Republican, and he was critical of Allen Iverson for bringing hip hop to the NBA. His stance against A.I. was to try and make black people or the younger black generation look bad in order to make himself look good in front of white people, just so he could get a pat on the back by them. Any black person who is conscious would know or understand why Karl Malone would be viewed as a house *****/sell out. If you still don't think Malone is a house *****, just ask Derrick Coleman.
Also, he came out STRONGLY playing against Magic Johnson in the NBA even AFTER Karl played with Magic on the Dream Team in '92. Just as Magic Johnson said, Malone showed no signs of concern or said nothing negative about playing with Magic while on the Dream Team because he had HIV, so why did he wait till afterwards to finally speak up and say something.

I disagree with a lot of what you said.

What blacks in Utah should Karl Malone have acclimated himself with? Also, if anyone thinks a black man wearing a cowboy hat/boots is trying to be white, I suggest they read up on actual black cowboys instead of being ignorant.

Another thing...there is quite the history here in the states of Black Republicans. IMO, there is nothing wrong with it.

As you know, I'm a HUGE Iverson supporter/fan. However, I'll never be naive to the fact that there is a generation of people who came before him who resented everything he brought to the NBA. Old-school heads. Karl Malone falls in this category. Malone isn't the only guy who didn't like Iverson's persona amongst other things.

I do agree that speaking up against Magic after the fact is a bit lame. But there were a lot of guys who were apprehensive about playing with or against him after his HIV diagnosis.

All the things you brought up are opinionated and nothing is really substantiated. If this is how YOU feel, then so be it.

Yea Malone is from Louisiana. He was wearing cowboy boots and hunting way before he got drafted

never hear of this guy before now, but if this stuff is true he may be the only sell out in this thread. (don't know reasons why people calling these other guys sellouts though) not getting the Tyler Perry one at all

Karl Malone is a house ***** because he is a Republican.

Being a Republican / being conservative precludes you from being accepted into the African-American community? So all African-Americans espouse the values of the Democratic party? Good to know.

what does this even mean, what does a book have to do with anything? ive read it a few times and I just cant grasp the concept of what you were trying to say, was this you trying to insult me?

You probably leaned back in your chair after hitting 'reply' on some "THATLL show 'em!" stuff :lol

You want to pass assumptions about me; specifically that the only reason I, or anyone, would possibly criticize Obama is if he/she were poor.
So I choose to make assumptions about you; more specifically, that you're an idiot.
You're dodging my question and just throwing frivolous period-induced insults. Stay classy.

Again: Whats the book thing have to do with anything? Explain the "insult" (inb4 I dont have to explain anything to you blah blah)

In relation to that comment up there ^^

Also, I cant stand Tyler Perry. He's got like umteen movies and endless shows on tv and I dont support any of them :{

I may not like alot of Tyler's stuff, but how is he a sellout? He's been doing the madea character way before he was this famous. Dude single handedly employs most of black hollywood, since nobody else will. He gives to charities, what more can you ask of the guy. Also people only seem to see madea when talking about tyler. A show like House of Payne is pretty much like any other somewhat funny/crappy sitcom out there. Except the cast is black

Excluding Madea centered movies, he has put out
Good Deeds
For Colored Girls
Why Did I get married
Why did I get married too
Daddy's Little Girls.

Most of the movies werent Oscar material, but they also werent horrible. He puts out solid stuff giving black actors opportunities

It doesn't surprise me that I had to explain my post once. What does surprise me is that you need me to do it again :lol

By the way, thanks for giving me a passing grade, sir.

We can add Joe Oliver to the list as well, he's the black guy that came out in defense of George Zimmerman.

Listened to him on YouTube. :{ So long as a single black person thinks this way, we're losing.

:lol Okay... NOW I remember Jesse Peterson.

I remember him being on a few shows years ago and saying that if your name "sounded black",he'd IMMEDIATELY rip your application up without even as much as LOOKING at your credentials.

Duke is really a worthless human being (or one of the illest trolls of ALL time).
