Seattle SuperSonics Thread

I know it's the first time someone associated with the Bucks has come out and said something about it, but the timing is no coincidence. The arena funding is going to a vote this week, and they have to dangle that threat in front of everyone. Ultimately, the Bucks will get their arena, because no city/state is going to allow what happened in Seattle (and this goes back to before Clay Bennett bought the team). I think the NBA does everything in its power to not move teams anymore, and will do everything it can to ensure it doesn't happen in this case. Sucks, but that's how it is.
What was the cause for the move? I thought the Sonics had support in Seattle?

So not a single group put in an offer for the NHL. We had an expansion team put on a platter and ****** that up. This is officially over. No chance either League is coming

Ha. So stupid. What is this we're (the big wigs acting like they wanna make waves and be a hero) doing here?

All bark, just a nibble.

Go fishing and spare us, if that's the case.

Pretty much. Because of all the damn red tape you have to sift through, it takes years just to get environmental reviews done. Notice how every other city doesn't have to go through that crap? Or, at least to the absurd extent we have to around here? Heaven forbid some butterfly species native to SoDo gets displaced. Then, you have the port, which is losing so much business to Tacoma they should worry about their own problems, yet are in so many peoples' back pockets they heavily influence any decisions about the stadium district (even though it's been proven they won't be affected).

Hansen's MOU expires in TWO years. Ya'll know damn well the NBA isn't budging on expansion (and certainly not relocation) within the next two years. The NHL was the ticket to an arena (somewhere, anywhere), and that's gone.Everyone better hope the Seahawks stay good because the sports outlook is BLEAK in this town, otherwise.

Man bring the damn Sonics back. I barely got to appreciate the team, but even I can see how great this franchise was. All respect to OKC, but this should be Seattle's moment. KD, Russ, championship hopes. This is all yours man.

The Mariners are the Cleveland Browns of baseball. They should have 0 say in the matter

I wish the Mariners would focus on winning |I

It's sad that the Mariners are more focused on possible competition for their terrible product instead of focusing on improving their terrible product.

The Seattle Times stays trolling with the anti-arena stuff. Art Thiel said it well: just because some study claims a KeyArena remodel is FEASIBLE, doesn't mean the NBA would want that. In fact, we already know the NBA doesn't want it. It's pointless to even discuss. It was a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation for the council. If they DON'T survey a KeyArena remodel, then all the NIMBYs would complain that the council didn't do their due diligence. If they DID the survey (which they did), it opens the door to the "well, why do we need a new arena, then?!?" crowd. Again, this is why we can't have nice things here.

Anyway, I'm not getting my hopes for anything at this point. The council will likely vote to vacate the two streets, then it'll be caught up in litigation hell until the MOU expires. The only glimmer of hope for an arena is renewing the MOU, which would probably happen, considering four of the original seven "yes" votes are still in office, while the two "no" votes are gone. All they need to do is sway one person. Even then, Hansen could say "screw it", develop the land himself, and there goes any public benefit on that land.
