Lakers, Dodgers, Bills. I grew up in NorCal though so I can't really empathize with hometown loyalty. I never meant to go against the grain though either, I just saw Magic play and the choice was made. There's a lot of Dodger fans up here too, my whole family roots for them. With the Bills, I jumped on their bandwagon when they played the Giants in the SB but it never really produced for me has it? Even if they moved to Toronto or wherever I would still be a fan without question. I don't get Sonics fans who didn't follow them to OKC. Those were your players you supported, don't abandon them because of politics. The difference with them and Sacramento though is they will probably get another NBA team someday. I think that's it for Sactown. Even more reason to continue following them.Originally Posted by 651akathePaul

Damn that. If I root for a team, that's my team. Screw the city.

Therein lies the difference. I believe a real fan never settles on the players to dictate their fanhood. It's the team, the franchise, its history, and memories associated with this history that are moved. Not even the loss of a superstar in Durant has a beneficial opportunity cost of the removal of a complete franchise.Originally Posted by Bean Pie Slanga

QFT. The Kings are dead to me the second the move is official. Until then, I will root for them with everything I haveOriginally Posted by 651akathePaul

Hell, at least Lakers kept their original name from when they were Minneapolis. For Seattle, it's as if the entire history of the Sonics is trying to be erased.

To be fair about the last part, the former owner holds the rights to the name "SuperSonics" I believe, so Oklahoma City wasn't allowed to name them the Sonics. Former owner said he won't allow any team to be named SuperSonics unless they reside in Seattle.Originally Posted by 651akathePaul

Great post, you hit home especially on this last bit, if only because my A's are likely to leave Oakland for San Jose. They'll probably have more prominence in national baseball talk and they'll have a new stadium and bigger payroll, but I will always miss the Oakland Athletics. Civic entities should never be taken away from their natural home (and I do see the irony in that the A's began across the country over a hundred years ago, but I can only speak for myself). I apologize if it seems ridiculous to complain since my team is moving only 40 minutes away, but I empathize with your pain. I just wish I had more words to say.Originally Posted by DsLee559
