Same in my country, not that it always works well. There's still a lot of police brutality, just in other ways than shooting people. Our cops may only rarely shoot innocent people but they sure do like beating them up.
This is an old case but I still remember it well because it presents a stark difference with US policing.
An officer here once got charged and convicted for fatally shooting a deranged violent perpetrator who charged at him from a relatively long distance with a knife. It was in a city square with lots of space and clear lines of sight, the perpetrator had his arm raised with the knife in position to make a downwards stabbing motion.
The prosecution's argument was that because the perpetrator was charging from afar in a straight line, the officer had more than enough time to pull out his taser to neutralize him. I do remember this case being somewhat controversial at the time but it did end in a conviction at the end of the day.

If I were that close I could also jump on the dude attacking my child without unloading 5 rounds and having one potentially hit her.
I'm referring to the specific scenario in this video, I would also be concerned about hitting my child with a bullet so unlike this mongrel of a cop I would have treaded a little more lightly.

Yea, it doesn't always work but shooting at people here doesn't always work and poses threats to bystanders and unarmed individuals. In this country people get shot ALL THE TIME, because the police "THINK THEY SAW A WEAPON". Their training leaves zero room for critical analysis, it's shoot first think later.

So you having a gun in your hand, being about 6ft away while the knife is inches from your girl, would rather dive at the attacker, high chances your kid gets stabbed and so will you....your risk assessment is absolute crap tbh

Definitely. Shooting someone should be a last resort because you or others are in danger.
Someone waving a knife far away definitely doesn’t need shot, tased maybe, but there are better ways to deal with these things that seem to happen way too often in the US.

Based on that video my daughter would be entirely too close for me to be unloading clips above the waist like a maniac.
I'm a gun owner because MAGAs have one and I can't let them be the only ones walking around with it. I actually hate guns with a passion, I've seen first hand the damage they do.

not to take away from the rest of your post, but from a medical standpoint, this is a ridiculous statement. one doesn't simply just prefer a knife wound over...anything really. a knife can do catastrophic internal damage to you and kill you almost as fast a bullet particularly if we are talking vital arteries and organs. and some bleeding isn't stopped by "just putting pressure on it".

Perhaps seeing my fare share of stab wounds roll through the ER as well as gun shot wounds, to me they are both just as deadly....but dude isn’t thinking logically, his mind is made up that the cop had full control of the situation before he even hopped out the car.

A knife can indeed do a lot of damage but it is less efficient in doing so. The velocity of the penetrating injury from a gun is far worse than a 16 year old girl with a shank. This is basic pathology.
It again comes down to perceived likeliness of this event being deadly. From my view point firing a gun multiple times carries a higher likelihood of death of everyone involved in this situation than that knife.
