Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I need a full documentary of how social media (specifically Twitter) decided that Chance and DaBaby were corny.

I'm not saying I disagree but it's almost like a coordinated effort against both of them.

Idk Bout The Corny Part But I Know For Me The Issue With Chance Was Seeing Or Hearing Him And His Music EVERYHWERE

And Just Not Understanding The Appeal. I Would Listen To His Music And Just Not Get The Popularity Or Hype.

I'd Presume It's Probably Similar With DaBaby Where They Clearly Are Being Pushed And Promoted To The Forefront But For Some It Feels So Unwarranted And Unauthentic.

Chance has a lot of the traits that have always been perceived as corny in hiphop (we can argue all day about whether those traits should be perceived as corny or not)

Dababy on the other hand almost delves too deep into all the stereotypes hiphop looks at as cool & I don't think the music has been good enough to quiet the backlash from all the extra ****

From what I saw, Chance leaned too far into the good guy of rap. All the stuff he was putting out there (helping the Chicago schools, fanboying about Beyoncé, wanting to be a good married/family man) started to become too clean cut. Ignant internet folls not going for that, and that’s who tends to make the headline online.

Think about it, we live in the age where cats like Chance and Russel Wilson will get clowned for wanting to be good men to their families but will champion (allegedly) toxic cats like Future. It’s no secret I’m a stan but objectively speaking, it’s backwards as hell.

As far as dababy, his clown stuff is iffy, but it’s been on display for a while. The violence and stuff folks shouldn’t fault him for, because it’s been proven that it’s usually other people starting with him and dude’s defending himself. After so many run ins though, the ingnant ****** will start to paint the narrative. Then with the onset of the gay dudes having aids and him having drama with his baby moms playing out on instagram, folks will start to have mixed opinions on em.

Personal lives aside, strictly music, chance has some stuff I like.

Funnily, I like more chance songs than da baby. I don’t like none of bruh music.

Chance got some joints.

Chance SLIDDDDD on these! He clearly was inspired by Kanye, Common and Lupe.

The hate for them both though is just group think. It’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I just can’t get into DaBaby music. Not cause of the bravado (I’m a condfident/arrogant dude sometimes myself), his music just don’t hit at all to me. His flow, content, beats, etc. weak IMO

Da baby music videos > his actual songs

People don’t like a chance because they feel he doesn’t deserve certain sponsorships or because they think he’s too couth.

I always respect any human for being their true authentic self. That’s one thing I get from both dudes. They’re comfortable in their skin. A lot of people out here aren’t comfortable being themself so it could also Lowkey be jealousy or just admiration.

But musically I’m f*** with Chance over Da Baby, IF I HAD A CHOICE…

LIL BABY > DaBaby

N_ need to change his because when I tell people LIL BABY is one of the best of his generation they get it confused with DaBaby.

Kirk need to change his damn name.

Watching this Young Thug bond hearing : I know there are criminals who deserve their consequences, and Young Thug may be one of them. That said, I couldn’t imagine my livelihood being dependent on incarcerating people who look like me.
Young Thug livelihood is based on violence against people that look like him 🤷🏽‍♂️
What’s the difference?

Salute to Slim K. :nthat:

Homie had some crazy chops a few years back. Haven’t seen him around in a minute.

been talkin to him and he had a kid so he slowed down for a bit, but he's hitting it hard again now. he dropped the kendrick chop, pusha soon and this rocky track. said to expect a lot more coming in consistently the rest of this year

Things shifted for Dababy when he hit a chick at a concert/club a few years ago after she put the camera in his face.

They don't get it as bad as this chick though. I only know who she is because of twitter cyberbullying her

Two sides of the same coin. I don’t support him or anyone that makes music of that ilk.

I was just pointing it out because by the dominant society’s standard, the Judge presiding over the case has “made it.” For me personally I would ask at what cost?

The hate she gets stems from comments she made about dark skin Black women

Sorry but ain’t nothing wrong with coming at your bullies in that way. People just get offended by everything.

If she was bullied and felt the need to defend herself in that manner, that’s cool with me. I see nothing wrong with what she said and I’m dark.
