Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Is there a reason to why Wale might have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to his music career?

At his rise, I don't remember being an independent artist being such a big thing as it is now. Now, since he's already established as an artist or even "worse", the peak of his career is behind him, can he possibly have a resurgence with falling further backwards?

He got his bread and did well for himself I think, his career was straight. He’s more of a niche artist than a superstar, and he did pretty well in that lane.

When you say short end of the stick, how? What was he supposed to do that he didn’t? He was never gonna be a drake level star

I thought he’d found his lane with the “That Way”, “Lotus Flower Bomb”, “Bad” type joints.

Those all did very well.

Not sure where he went wrong outside of the madness outside of music.

People really think he fell off? He released 1 lackluster album sales wise after what, like 3 that did well, he's one girl record away from bouncing back to the mainstream

The difference between Wale and 90% of rappers today is he actually has a "career" 10+ plus years strong.

Look at his xxl freshman cover and all the years after him how many of them are even around today or lasted 1 year or more?

I'd take Wales career over a one hit wonder anyday

dont ask how I stumbled upon this but damb. this dude Charles Hamilton is really out here fried

Charles never really bounced back from when ol girl put the lady paws on him
Also the video dude seems corny and his girl sounding a lil strung out herself

Well depends on what his expectations was compared to his reality.

Outside of Cole and maybe Drake, everyone has fallen backwards or become "niche" artists. I don't think anyone is just aiming to be a "niche" artist.

I wouldn't necessarily say a "niche" artist is the same as fallen backwards. Cudi is clearly a "niche" and while he may not be on the radio he's covered almost religiously on these music avenue's. Wale got the same amount of attention musically as Big Sean (Without piping famous chicks) up until his last project. He drop a track with one of these R&B dudes he's right back to where he started

That's real. He basically outdid and outlasted everybody there. Curren$y and Cudi are the only competition. He did well for himself.

Wale is in the place where it's cool hate him, some of it is his own doing. I've never been that big on music but he cool. Him only selling 28k first week being who he is was a big flop, on top of that I didn't hear that many people say it was good. A lot people liked Album About Nothing.

Death Row Chronicles is dumb good, I knew a lot of this but it’s well done. I’m only on episode one but I’m shocked.

Whole thing is great.

Wale's an *******

The issue is if he will get with another major and get a push

I didn't like Shine, but he did have a couple of singles that were half way pushed. It could have done better sales wise. It was obvious Atlantic was sort of done with him.

The way he acts about not getting respect, I can't imagine how he acts towards his label, management, agent. Which is probably why all of them have changed. He displaces blame, but he's to blame for some issues in his career.

If he was more likable he might be thought of with Cole and Kendrick. IMO his music is definitely better than Cole's and he's had better singles and cross over songs.

Charles Hamilton said some wild **** about Jimmy Iovine a few years ago

Boy lost his mind when he tasted that first lil bit of fame

I remember him trying to make a comeback a few years back, he was supposedly healthy and everything was good, sad to hear he's still having problems

Wale Career better than all these "hot rappers" . These new rap dudes dont have real fans. They have "brief viewers" . Wale will still be doing 5k fan shows for years. Plus one bad album don't mean its over. Watch and learn. Wale will have another run. Hell they said he was done in 09 after the first album

Still haven't listened to that whole Migos album yet, but takeoff skating on that Narcos beat is one of my favorite things in rap thus far this year.
