Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Yeeeeeech.

Hope he comes around for that victory lap.

To me, I can see where magic is coming from on emotion, sunject matter, etc.

Daddy Where Have You Been is an emotional song. He say, She say is an emotional song.

The way Big used to rap with this desperateness. Like he was doing it to improve his situation, provide for his daughter. I’m not saying he was John Gotti. But you can tell he was hustling on the ave.

Ross is smooth with it. He makes dope verses, some cool songs. But he just doesn’t have the breadth of say Sir Hov or Nas.

It's not so much the story as much as it's about artist development. Even Pun's story was old- overweight rapper (Fat Joe, Biggie, Chubb Rock, Heavy D, Fat Boys), rapping about hood **** (Fat Joe, Biggie), chicks (Heavy D, Biggie), Puerto Rican (Fat Joe, Prince Markie Dee). But Fat Joe knew that Pun had to tone down the Horrorcore stuff and make more radio friendly music. And Joe had the connections to get him top notch production and features. Joell needed someone like that in his corner. That Slaughterhouse album with Shady sounded like an Eminem album. Which is something Joe Budden mentioned in his Eminem rant. He was right. Joell needed better guidance.

but Joell was on Aftermath and got that. He also had production. He has Dre songs

He just doesn't have an identity. Some artist just don't have "IT" and "IT" separates the majors from the minors

Pun had charisma and humor in his music

and I don't even think it was Fat Joe that had Pun doing the chick records. It was Pun. Everyone says dude was charming and funny. Just like Big. Joe wasn't doing chick records. Joe wasn't doing the **** Pun was doing. Joe wasn't doing skits.

Pun had more influence on Joe than Joe did on Pun. Listen to Jealous Ones Envy and then Don Cartegena.

I think they influenced each other but Pun was more Lyrical Miracle when he met Joe. That natural charm and humor that he had, Joe's the one who told him to bring it into the music and to make songs for radio.

I only checked out 2 joints in Donda (Jail/Keep my spirit alive) and those two were ok. But I can't pretend like I even wanna listen to the rest of the album, so I went back to Hitler8

Cats make a few pop/football stadium songs and dudes call them “versatile” hell nah. Pop music don’t make you dynamic or different

Joe said that recently that Pun got him making radio/club records.
