Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

There's no appeal to a wale record.

He's not dating rihanna or JLo.

He's not out here dating Jhene Aiko, or Ariana Grande like Sean did.

Wale not out here constantly in the press for this, that, and the third anymore.

There's no gravity to Wale right now. Why listen to a Wale record when Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Future, etc. all dropped this year?

That other stuff shouldn't matter but if we're comparing wale to all those other rappers, it does. And when you don't make as good of music as they do, that other stuff matters even more. It's crazy to me that people can't grasp their head around the fact that for the vast majority, Wale doesn't make as good of music as a Drake or Sean.

Wale sounds way more authentic on My Love than Drake does doing that sound. Drake is a pop act now, anything he does his stans will eat it up. Drake jumps on a wave and it's "OMG Drake is goat". :lol

I mean over half of More Life was rap, so why is he a pop act? Because he's successful in that arena? Or because he has a pop appeal?

Srs question.

He's a pop act cuz he makes Pop music and has a team of writers. Views and More Life are not rap/hip hop projects. Both of those are a pop/R&B/hip hop/danchall mix. None of dudes singles are hip hop at this point. All them joints are happy singalongs.

You can hold on to him being this straight up rap dude if you want but that's not reality.

Yup.

That's just the reality.

I'm not holding on to him being a straight up rap dude, he isn't. He's NEVER been.

And your bias with Drake is showing because the team of writers thing has nothing to do with this.

At the end of the day, all I asked was, why Drake was a full fledged pop act when over half of his albums are rap records that's all.

But Okay

You can't rap and be a pop act?

What was Nelly?

We gotta chill with attributing wale's personality to why his record flopped.

People aren't 'not' buying wale records because they dislike him.

A lot of people I talk to don't like him because of it, so they've totally tuned out his music.

And a lot of women think he's misogynistic. When in reality he argues with anyone.

Dating that succession of pop stars did WONDERS for Big Sean's profile.

And he delivered appealing music to the masses to follow.

If Tyga wasn't such a clown and idiot....he could be wear Sean is now. Thank God that didn't happen though.

Can you imagine :x

You can rap and be a pop act, sure. All I'm saying is that he's more of a rapper than a pop act. Not that it matters.

And he sold 12K PURE SALES. I doubt his personality had much to do with where he's at right now. Point blank, no one cares for a new Wale record in 2017 when there are multiple acts who generate interest for their music in more appealing ways to the masses, and the music is better.

The team of writers is part of it, along with his style of music.

You really don't wanna talk about bias. You the same dude that swore Drake wrote all his music. :lol

If Tyga actually had talent, he'd be out of here. He had Kanye, Kim, the entire jenners and kardashians promote his album AND IT STILL sold like 5k or something

Big Sean can actually rap unlike tyga lol

Don't know why some of these drake boys still get hurt when you say he's pop. It is what it is. :lol

Only frat boys and lame women listen to Drake. Dudes in the hood gone bump Wale, Future, or Kendrick over Drake. Drake got all those sales, all these hits, and STILL begging women for attention. You mentioned a has-been like J.Lo, and Rihanna who is what we consider "for the game". That's why Drake simps for strippers so much. Drake is the biggest simp in society right now.

it comes down to who's saying what, not what who is saying

Two artists can make the same exact album yet one will get more attention off their name alone

In some respects yes, this is true. But there's also something to be said for them just being better at it, and sounding better at it.

That's why there's a sector in the music business for songwriters who cut demos for artists who sound better doing it.

Rack city was dope.

Wale is better than Drake, and on par with Kendrick and J. Cole. Those three have the same subject matter. People dislike Wale because he's outspoken. Someone above said Wale thinks he's greater than he is

Dude IS a great musician. I mean, I can't vibe to Drakes music because I think dude is corny as can be. But I love Wale, J.Cole, and Kendrick. I buy all their music. I personally hate when Wale chases that pop sound. Lyrically, dude can spit with the best of them. I don't know why he tries to branch out. Especially in today's musical landscape. Again, those are his own personal demons.

Drake is for cornball dudes.
Wale is in no ******* way on par with Kendrick, Cole or Drake. Stop it dude.

"As far as executing, writing rhymes, and telling a story, [Kendrick is] one of the top five rappers of all-time.”

Those are his words on kendrick. You can never be on par with a dude saying **** like this. He top 5 all time, then what are you? He knows his lane, he just doesn't want to accept it.

The weird dudes who bring up drake every time and write paragraphs about how he ain't good, he pop, he this he that must have some serious love for dude [emoji]127998[/emoji]‍♂️

Wale is definitely on par with j Cole. Dude has him beat as far as albums go most definitely. Wale main thing is his public perception. Dude IS that good. He just (I don't know why) doesn't know when to shut up and rap. Why are u crying on twitter and interviews and running up on ppl, calling cussing ppl out etc. just rap bro. Rap ALL your frustrations and someone will hear it and for the life of me I can understand why this guy WOULDNT capitalize on making a diss record for dudes that have had words for you.

Their stanning for Drake is just as bad if not worse than the members they talk about

Wale not on the same level as them dudes, he's not far from it but he's not. People dislike Wale cause he's thinking too highly of himself. Haven't finished the interview but he spent the first 10 mins trying to sound so aloof and nonchalant that he comes off as an idiot. His talent is respected but who he portrays himself to be keeps a decent amount of people from giving him a shot.

Tyga had a good run when he started out on his Last Kings tip for couple of years, then Hotel California came out and flopped and it's like all the wind left his sail
Rack city was dope.
It really was

Mush mouth Wale is just not that good of a MC... period... I've tried giving slims songs a chance over and over and he's just not crankin like that... and homies personality makes him unlikable... he do too much cryin... met slim a few times through mutual friends...

Wale is on par with Cole...Cole music is basic as hell but not bad either...he has this "regular everyday type of guy" thing going on which is why people gravitate towards him

Wale is on the polar opposite side of that which hurts him in many cases
