Maybe, if I saw some sign of it, but most producers who can were involved in band or play instruments. They didn't go back and learn after becoming producers.

i was in middle school band and remember absolutely none of that **** when it comes to making beats.
IMO sheet music makes things more complicated it's more about your fingering on whatever instrument and knowing your chords
Nobody is reading sheet music in 2019 probably not in the last 30-40 years.

Sounds like we are stepping into subjectivity. You may not view his production as "that good" but a musician is a musician even if 30% of listeners count it as "good"

By definition, yes.
But even then, by definition a musician is "musically talented" and that can be subjective. So somebody can be a musician and only be recognized as musically talented by a small group of people while others disagree.

Really this comes down to you not really seeing computers, samplers, etc. as instruments.
Drum programming, sample chopping, sound design are all just as important as "traditional" musical things.
Music won't evolve if people don't accept that technology can be used as instruments, just as a piano or a guitar was ground breaking technology at some point in history.
