Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I'd entertain a rapper/sports podcast. Juvenile sounds like he really knows his ****. I heard Jadakiss mention he's starting one...Cam is trying to get in that space too.

Would be infinitely more entertaining than the ESPN/FS1 shows

Rappers could really run their own television channel. ****** don’t think like that

Old Town Road is actually a dope song.

This is the exact reason why I never have and never will support anything Post Malone does. This **** doesn’t go both ways. We gotta stop being so welcoming of everyone.

They're basically telling dude "we stole your **** now you can't do it".

We need to stop accepting any and every white person just cause they know a lil bit of our slang and what's trendy. If they got a genuine respect for hip hop or R&B and they're talented, cool but the ones that make it obvious they don't respect you, you can't co-sign that.

Generally speaking 'we' allow it. I know generally, this thread is a bit more conscious than that, but I be perplexed by the amount of support Post gets from our people.

We're the most welcoming and embracing people because we know what being discriminated against feels like. People clearly take advantage of that.

I still think Rockstar was trash...and he didn't even write his own ****.

Who is "We"?
Because if you are expecting 100% of black people to uphold the same level of morals you will always be disappointed.

It don't need to be 100% of black people. You always gonna have some _'s that just don't care but having enough on code to say "we not accepting this clown". That's all.

From day 1 White Iverson was trash and clear buffoonery.

I'm a Post fan and I don't think he doesn't lack respect for the culture, I can understand why somebody else may believe differently and won't argue how somebody feels/thinks.

I guess I get confused/bothered when people talk about "We gotta stop letting people in" because I don't think "We" are really "allowing" anybody as much as "We" think

But there's probably a decent number of people who feel exactly that way, how are you quantifying how many is "enough"?

Saying "We" just comes off as a buzzword and less like an actual understanding of what's going on

Nah...what gets pushed (which is an aspect out of our hands) is always based on what is being consumed which is totally in our hands.

Post Malone is 100% the vulture people had him pegged as. Had a failed folk/country career wearing booty shorts, was advised to change his aesthetic by studying tumblr and YouTube, released White Iverson, got a lot of success and publicity with that while doing other rap features, went back to country and saying that’s what he wanted to do in the first place, failed again then came back to rap. He does have a couple cool songs here and there, but actually dedicating a lot of time and anticipating his music? No thanks

I'd argue what's being consumed is not totally in our control, at least we have the most control in the beginning of an artist's career but once they get to a certain level their popularity steers them past any "gate keeper" we may have.

Looking for a recent graph but according to RBR we are not the majority who consume Hip Hop
this is 2017

Well at this point white rappers can just skip over the black audience. I don't know any black people that was listening to Macklamore but he was very successful with white folks. Funny enough Macklamore has actually shown way more respect for hip hop than Post Malone.

Have you heard some the stuff he's said about hip hop and how he shows zero awareness?

He's basically like a male version of yesjulz/Iggy.
