Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Man I just watched that Lyor Cohen breakfast club, hate this dude with a passion but he be saying some real **** and he was 1000% on point when he was talking about _’s wanting to run to XYZ ATL strip club to do a lil trash walk thru-“show” that requires minimal thought and effort for that quick 15-20k brown paper bag vs focusing on doing ticketed shows and actually cultivating their live performance and hard ticket.

Then be tryna book a tour but got no real numbers to talk these ppl with :smh:

Gotta damn near put hands on _’s out here to try and get them to understand that concept, dudes just don’t care about the long game and sustainability when they getting to it right now.

And it’s not just in ATL, NYC and _’s like Juelz come to mind. Seem like bruh just set back and played that lil market for years

I don't think some people mind. Like Fab has been doing it for 15 years. And he doesn't even tour as heavy as he should IMO.

But to me it's a rougher life. Dealing with shady promoters and the dangers of being in a lot of these local clubs.

 at Def Jam using a video game to be like “hey remember me?”

This is exactly what they did :rollin :rollin take a look at their current roster. Ain’t even worth making an updated game in this current climate, so they shouldn’t even try to tease like that.

Lol At Def Jam Having A weak Roster

Kanye
Big Sean
2 Chainz
Nas
Pusha
Logic
Dave East
YG
Vince Staples
Jeremih
Fab
Jada
Jeezy
Q-Tip

I think Def Jam is quite okay with their roster

Now post the artists they actually put money behind. Knocks out half that list. And that doesn’t even include some of those lesser Def Jam artists.

there's literally a handful of artist who get big label pushes in all of hiphop. Def Jam is right on par with any other label as far as promo goes.

Then again this is the same thread that claimed QC is having a Rocafella type run right now so it really pointless to discuss

Gotta deal with the risks to get the fast and easier money

I personally don't give a darn which rappers they put on the roster. I just want them to make a new game & for FFNY to be backwards compatible!!

Nobody said that.....but idk why you fronting on QC....that’s a label that’s been on fire for the last 3 years.

Idek how you can front on QC. Especially with Cardi B now being managed by them.

I think they have a roster, but they don't know how to work artist in the 21st century anymore.

I mean do they turn every artist into a star no, but they have done pretty well in terms of Marketing some of their artist

2Chainz gets major looks
They have developed Sean into one of the biggest rappers in the game, The same can be said for logic
YG went from being known for toot it & boot it to being looked at as one of the West new leaders

As for their veteran acts, they've done a decent job promoting their releases also. Def Jam is on par with most labels, I think they get extreme criticism because their being judged againt the Jay,X,Ja era of things. They aren't dominate anymore but they're far from trash

Lil Baby's "run" = 05' Jeezy
Enough is enough!!! Im tired of yall comparing lil baby to jeezy this disrespect has gone on for far too long
