Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Star definitely wasn't doing it because he wanted to stand up for the me too movement

Have you listened to Wax on Brilliant Idiots.:smh:

Again, I'm not taking a side in this. No clue what happened, and I really don't care. Star, though? Star is a funny *****, man.

I have, but I listen to Brilliant Idiots only once every six months.

This is what I mean. We in here arguing about some **** that has absolutely nothing to do with us, and no holding on our lives.

And while we argue about it, we continue to help the story grow. Do any of us know what actually happened? Will the outcome of this situation impact any of us directly?

I'm really trying to understand why we're so inclined to waste our time and energy debating with one another over some **** we can never really have an answer to. And it's not just with this, and not just here. Social media is really corroding society from the inside out. We spend so much time and energy either defending or damning a bunch of people we don't know and who couldn't care less about us.

That's not odd to anyone else?

Is it really too much energy? I’m just chilling on my lunch break now. I’m not going out of my way to spend hours upon hours discussing stuff. It literally takes 30 seconds to post something. What energy is being lost. I’m on the NBA reddit at the same time I’m writing this

Also as the saying goes, there’s nothing new under the sun. People have discussed/gossiped about things since forever. It isn’t just a social media invention

Didn't the same happen to Weinstein, Bill Cosby, R Kelly.....

We aren't supposed to talk about things that have nothing to do with us? Hell, Morgan Freeman got it, and nothing he did was in the same league as Kevin Spacey.

Using Charlamagne's phrase, we're just keeping the same energy with him.

Nothing in the music section matters. Yet we argue about it. I **** with @mrwavez about his Drake ringtones and posters on his wall and wavycrocket wavycrocket about him being on the QC payroll all the time. That doesn't really matter or affect any of us directly, well maybe wavycrocket wavycrocket since he gets paid per post.

Not actual physical energy. To each his own, but I notice more and more that society’s attention is pulled by some **** that doesn’t really matter.

It is what it is, but I dunno why we’re all become so consumed with these stories.

if we being real
life is stressful as hell
sometimes
u need other things to either relieve that stress
or other things to focus
or occupy ur time
to get u through the day
sometimes that requires u to be in other folks business

 word.

We've been talking about this for a few pages now. Everyone involved in this discussion has given their attention, regardless of what side of the coin you fall on. That's what a discussion board/social media is. It's fascinating to see how different people process the same information and come to various conclusions. It's like one big case study.

My only observation that I'm finding to become more and more apparent every day...is the EMOTION involved. People are going into these discussions with emotions for...or against the public figure(s) involved. We see it every day in this thread. It's a shame you damn near have to preface comments with stating how you feel about a person. You either "caping" or you want the "black man to fall". Objectivity be damned. Both sides sound absolutely bat **** crazy to me.

The court of public opinion is just noise to me. I couldn't possibly care any less about if Charlemagne raped this girl or not. And I don't have **** in common with that guy other than checking the same box in the census. I'm not conceding to him being some sort of representation of positive black males. Let's call this what it is...Star trolling. Nothing will come of this besides Charlagmagne's rep taking a hit on the internet.

It's gonna be real funny to see all these people give CTG a pass and not "keep the same energy" You can't kill R Kelly and give CTG a pass. 15 is 15.

Jay Rock and TDE got the best music videos. I really appreciate them, brings me back to the 90s. They're actually trying to do something with their videos.

Same can be said about a lot of **** tho

You guys have to be cognizant of the documents that they’re presenting in that Star video.

For example, Jessica states that CTG claimed it was consensual, and at the 3 minute mark, they show the Grand Jury document that reads “Convened on August 29, 2001 the grand jurors of Berkeley county present upon their oath that Lenard L McKelvey did in Berkeley County on or about the eighth day of June 2001 willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously engaged in Pennell vaginal intercourse with the 15-year-old female”

A) That document is an affidavit, which is just the written allegation of what the court is trying to prove. Not a verdict of guilt.
B) That document was presented to a grand jury, not a jury of your peers. A grand jury’s duty is to simply determine whether there is enough evidence at the present time to proceed with the charges against a person. In this case, the evidence could have been medical records and the victim’s recount of what she remembered from the night.

I say all that to say this, be skeptical of what they’re presenting in this Star video, of what CTG has said in the past, and what has been proven in the court of law. There’s definitely some posturing on Star’s end because this stuff is being presented without explanation, and an audience who doesn’t have a good understanding of what these legal documents represent can easily be mislead.
