Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Those SoundCloud tumblr kids are f’n **** up though.

Definitely agree with that.

I don't know why people act like the south started dropping music in 2005 or something. The south been making contributions to hip hop and dropping classics since the early-mid 90's with Geto Boys, UGK, 8Ball & MJG, 3-6 Mafia.

and then act like from 2005 and on the south ruined hip hop. TI, Jeezy, Wayne, Ross, Gucci have been making great music in that time period. Yeah it's been some trash artists but it's been some great music too. Was the south supposed to stop moving cuz NY fell off?

It's trash rappers everywhere, especially now. The south, NY, wherever. It's also a lot of great music out if you ignore the BS. I'm too the point now where I'm not even giving these moist looking, tatted face lil suchandsuch a listen. I got more than enough harmonize trap music from Future, Quavo and Thug. And as far as the young dudes I got Kodak and NBA Youngboy.

as someone who watched the game go from NY centric to where it is now from 04-05 when i started paying attention heavy to rap

the south didnt kill hip hop but soulja boy definitely made my generation not really wanna hear that dipset, jay z, cam ron, etc. style no more

like after soulja boy, gucci/zay, snap era, ringtone rap, etc. the beats definitey changed going into the 2010’s

but i think lex has the most impact in this convo. BMF (and honestly hard in the paint and FLOCKAVELI since thats prolly what put ross on to lex) changed popular music for the entire decade. That song is why taylor swift is on trap drums rn and everything else sounds ancient. think how Lex’s style went from Gucci/flock, to ross to Kanye and Hov for WTT (there are southside beats on WTT thats crazy in retrospect) and then just the entire game.

The south has had mixed effects on the game thru it simplifying production and the cadences that fit well on that type of production. when u dnt do that bouncy migo thug future gucci overdone flow on that type of production you get Nasir. ****** talking fast about vaccinations...i see and appreciate the intent but sometimes its just too much for those type of beats.

ive been saying since i had an account here that NY just needs to update that boom bap sound like LA did thru Mustard and even some of Kendrick’s beats on tpab and gkmc are classic west coast withiut sounding dated. even yung berg/hitmaka to an extent altho idk whrre he from

harry fraud makes great neo new york beats. dude from flatbush zombies and idk if he still makes this style but around 13-14 i remember @PLVN uploaded all his beats up till that point and i thought joey badass would sound amazing over em. they wrre lkke boom bap but currwnt. one of the most original styles ive heard

the south got beats from 20 years ago that still sound fresh so they dont even need to reinvent just keep the drums fresh.

producers need an everyday struggle type show to talk about how effective production is on the path the rap game takes.

Nobody wanna hear any form of boom bap :lol

And there are plenty of younger NY artists who have a fresh New York sound. It's just not mainstream friendly

i like jay critch.

and meh. 8 out of 10 from drake new album is boom bap and its fire.

i think it was @VARNELL HILL who said before that a lot of the beats drake rap on/Boi-1da and 40 beats are actually boom bap. and when u look at those lord knows (just blaze), _ AM/PM in Toronto/Calabassas, the lyrical esque tracks he always closes albums with those are great cinematic boom bap beats.

I like this guy from ny his name is Wati Heru or some **** he had a hard neptunes sounding song a few years ago i made a thread but no one really felt it lol.

I was 18 when Soulja Boy came out so I wouldn't say he stopped young people from listening to Jay or Dipset.

People took Soulja Boy for what he was, it was fun for parties and that's it. Now if you was 15 or younger when Soulja Boy came out you probably wasn't a Jay or Dipset or Lox anyway. Soulja would connect you more cuz it was catchy and a dance.

I agree on Zay and the whole 808 mafia though. Metro came in and he's like lil brother to 808 mafia and it's some Zaytoven sons out here like Buddah Bliss, Cassius Jay, Stackboy Twan. Jeezy, Gucci, Waka and Wayne influenced rappers and now we see a bunch watered down parody versions of them.

Did you actually listen or just look at the vid title? There was a lot of truth in what he said

It wasn't a lot of truth. It was a 2 minute video of him saying no one is original. and saying everybody is sampling and redoing older *****. Only thing he said that mattered is that those who are redoing older hits is that they need to cut a check.

Shorty is miserable

Son this is the kind of outburst mental breakdown I tend to see happen to NTers in arguments

She's mad mad. Reaching for anything to clap back on dude. Lost in the anger
