When do you see me saying he's not any good, or not important? I said he is NOT more important than ALL of those other players, which is flat out true. Seattle still had a ton of talent on the field, on defense. Moreso than what the Patriots did.

It doesn't work like that in football. It takes every single person to do their job right for things to work. Let's also not mention Sherm playing with 1 arm. Thomas having 1 shoulder and Kam having 1 leg. Or the fact that you are saying they should of made adjustments to a defense that has played damn near the exact same way for over 2 years.

Cuz, Sherm never got thrown at, at all.
Kam had one leg?

Avril is starter and would be for over half the teams in the NFL when you lose him you lose a guy who can win one on one without using games or zone blitzes

It also affects a guy like Bennett, if I know my offensive tackle can block the defensive end( Schofield) on a 2 way go, the offensive guard and center can devote all their attention to the defensive tackle which I believe Bennett played in most passing situations

I want to watch the game again to see if Bennetts disappearance coincided with Avrils injury

Trading Jeremy Lane for Tharold Simon if you cant see the affect of that, I don't know what to say to you

But this will be forgotten just like Krumrie's injury in one of Montana's Super Bowls wins

people remember him getting hurt, what am I supposed to do with that info though? Discount the win for SF and Joe's final drive?

Pats gameplan was to quickly attack the soft spots in Seattle's zone and feed the ball to Gronk when he was single-covered. The plan called to avoid throwing to receivers Sherman covered and limit passing plays from Earl's range. Sherman and Earl were neutralized long before they even hit the field. They weren't allowed to make plays out of respect for their ability, not injuries.

It is a part of the game though. Just one of those things that luckily went our way this season, just like it did for Seattle last year, etc.

EDIT: Only speaking on Earl Thomas and Sherm. Lane & Avril injuries are obviously different.

Colinsworth pointed it out multiple times, every time they showed Wright on Gronk, it was an automatic throw to Gronk.

All the checkdowns to Vereen, just to keep the chains moving, like running plays sort of.

And as you said, we saw very little of Sherm or ET. Cuz Tom never looked at em. Nor did they ever plan to.


Lane I can hear and understand, but Avril? I didn't see him do a single thing the whole game til he got hurt. So I don't see that gripe at all.


Nor do I see any Pat fans upset that Mayo couldn't play and help their defense. *shrugs*

I was just stating losing your nickel CB and your starting gunner is going to impact the game. And idk how you don't see Avrils difference. Seattle had a decent pass rush until he got hurt. Than the line was double teaming Bennet all game. Something they couldn't do when Avril was lined up right next to him.

I dunno man, I said first thing this morning that Peter King pointed out Bill adjusted at half time, and that's what helped switch up the blocking on Bennett. Not Avril going out.

I'm going to re-watch the game tonight, try and find out exactly where and when Avril went down, and see what changed from that. Maybe Peter was reaching, or mis-remembered, I don't know.


My only point above all was they still had WAY more talent on the field than any other defense in the NFL. Including New England. And they didn't have their full roster of defenders either, so not sure why the fuss.

I'm EXTREMELY surprised what happened in the 4th quarter. Stunned, really. I honestly thought NE was tapped out at 14, and then they went nuts those last couple drives. But it's not like they ONLY attacked Simon all night, Brady spread it around like crazy, and kept the defense off balance. And really, he started that early in the game, and just had the 2 mistake throws that Seattle picked off.

Word, he said he's only in the midst of his career last night 14 seasons in . There's no reason for me to believe that he won't be playing till at least 40. When reading about his off the field exploits and how he takes care of his body, you start to realize that he legit lives and breathes football almost year round.
