wallyhopp that A’s hat is gorgeous. Not surprised you’re disappointed in hats that are made in Bangladesh. I absolutely refuse to purchase a hat made there.

Yeah. I love the cooperstown caps they did from 1997-2006. All made in the USA. All generally 95% accurate as far as details/logos used etc. go.

Like I said, some of these smaller runs at HC, HH, topperz, and the like seem okay to mediocre. Some Bangladesh caps are tolerable. These two are not. Theres something totally off about these PS patched caps. Maybe they picked the absolute bottom of the barrel iffy quality caps to throw patches on at the last second? The brims seem to be angled upward too. The upper crown is quite bulbous. I honestly don’t know if I can save these for wear. I sized up because my 7/8 seemed a bit small in the back of the cap, like the back panels are low profile or built for a size 7 cap. So I went up. Now my entire hand can fit in the sweatband. Not sure I can ever buy these newer on field caps again without trying them on. The size range is now 4 sizes for me.

I believe it’s the Ogden raptors alternate cap circa 2015-16 rebrand. Cap is made in the USA. Black nasty. 100% poly. All around awesomeness. Not many milb caps were made in the USA past 2014, so when you find one, cherish it.


New pickup
Had to get back in good graces with new era. Back to USA greatness. This one is a 2012-15 Detroit tigers home on field cap. Black nasty. 100% poly/ USA made. Absolutely stunning in brighter natural light. Not sure why I mess with anything past 2018 when derby closed. You can’t match this. Decent price. Gotta love the black nasty disdain. More for me.

Todays wear
1999 Cincinnati reds road on field. Made in USA. Grey under. 100% wool.

The reds mysteriously added black (and drop shadows) to their lineup in 1999. This coincided with KGJ joining the club a year later, so I call this my KGJ 2.0 cap.
The crowns of this era were still a bit top hat heavy. My favorites pop up around 2003-2006 with the near perfect construction and fit. Anything grey under and reds in this larger size took me many many years to find. Other teams, it’s easier to find. But not the reds. Still missing a red/black grey under. I had my chance a year back and stalled.

Ah, did not know that. I pre-ordered the other 2 Black/Brown 2Ts LROD put up a few weeks ago. I'd imagine you could do quite a bit color-wise with that patch, so I'm surprised it hadn't been used before especially with its strong connection to Fernando-mania.

alright i used forward2me and grabbed 5 hats total for 183.75, 3 packages (consolidated+repacked) and quoted at 63.25 shipped for a grand total of 247 for 49.40 a cap.

pricing is gonna a bit different if you attempt this now because i used multiple discount codes.

i risked it all (i HIGHLY do not recommend this) and i didn't use insurance but that would have put me at 273 total for 54.60 per cap, not that bad considering how much getting 1 cap shipped here (in USA) is !


my random notes about reshipping

-over €50 is free shipping for topperz, so buying 1 cap priced at €39.90 +shipping+reshipping is not worth it IMO (then again, this your world, do what you want)

-¾ to 8 sell out the fastest so ordering those sizes can be troublesome

-i should have used the UK warehouse bc they offering 55% off rn for items shipped (home) from that specific warehouse until 12/5 but i read that UK left eu so blah blah custom duties blah, anyways i used the german warehouse

-i am not recommending forward2me, that's just the one i used as an experiment

-im sure ill be doing this again but with a different service

But I didn’t bite. For every impulse chance I get now, I’m starting a new tradition. I’m gonna break out a hat that hasn’t been worn yet. For that hat today, I broke out a 1934 Detroit tigers heritage collection cap from a 8/21 capsule Toronto release. 14 months between buying and wearing is ridiculous. That’s gotta change.

Made in China. 100% wool. No side flag or batterman. As plain Jane as you could make them. What’s completely crazy is that you cannot find a Kelly green plain Jane Detroit home cap in any retro capacity. You have to go back to the 1993 original. Despite having a Kelly green under for nearly 60 years, you can’t really find the plain janes. So this is a nice substitute.

One issue. The right temple has this weird wrinkle/bump. Anyone got any potential fixes for it? It seems like they were getting it ready for a side patch and since there isn’t one there, the side remains loose.

There’s certain heritage or Cooperstown designs out there that capsule has done to near perfection. Their 1961 Yankees is amazing too. Not sure why all these other hat outlets aren’t doing more of these releases.

Two other wears from this past week and into the weekend

2018 HC exclusive 1971 San Diego padres gold/brown on field retro replica. Made in USA (imported materials. Tonal side flag. Zero batterman. 2018 was an amazing year for HC. They had quite the IN with the usa derby, Ny factory and used it to their full advantage. These usa made plain janes were their bread and butter for a year or two.
