Wheelie Wednesday. Still can't get it up

I'm trying to clutch wheelie, but I don't know if I'm revving too much or too little. I clutch, hit the throttle, then let go of the clutch. Once I let go of the clutch I let off of the throttle because the noise makes me think I'm revving too much and I don't want to 12 o'clock it. What am I doing wrong?

Get with some friends that do decent wheelies first. It's always best to learn from others and also to have them around in case of anythang happenin.

First rule of wheelieing is to ALWAYS COVER THE REAR BREAK!!!! Lol in case u feel like u are about 12.
I reccomend (everyone has a diff way) holding the clutch n give about 1/10 of a roll on the gas, then release the clutch n continue to roll thru to about 3-5/10 gas.
A lot of wheeliein is finding the power band on ur bike.
I suggest gettin with others that ride. This makes things so much more easier to learn.

Sad to hear a rider pass away.

Here is a picture of my bike I picked up last month. 1987 CMX450 with ~9k miles. Friend sold it to me for $700, but need new tires and the front dust seals are shot.

Been going at it 1-2 hours over the weekend..still not very comfortable riding in traffic. I only take it out when it's dead in the night. Sucks that I can only ride weekends since I live in the city. Not enough balls to go on the highway yet.

On a side note: how many of you guys park on the sidewalk? I'm contemplating on pulling off my plates and putting a cover once I get the bike to the city. I live in a fairly residential area..so there's not much foot traffic and the sidewalks are pretty empty. The alternate side parking is rough. 4x a week.

RIP. My condolences go out to his family.

I'm sorry to hear about his loss. Every time I read or hear about a rider who gets hurt or even dies, I always get an an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. It never gets easy to see or hear these stories.

Okay fellas, I hit a pothole in the dark last night going about 70. Luckily, I didn't fall off but I almost did. I bent my rims pretty bad. I was wondering if they're fixable or are they done? Thanks

honestly highway riding, to me anyway, is MUCH less daunting than being out on the street with pedestrians, obfuscated street signs, traffic, and whatever else. i think you have to be so much more alert riding through the city...and only i park up on the sidewalk where i stay, w/a cover & a chain, but i would check what the rules are where you live before pulling the plates because that might result in you ride getting towed rather than ticket

is the bead between the tire & rim broken (is the tire holding air-no leak?)? if not, some shops will fix/straighten it for you when balancing your tire(s) but i think i'd just replace it & see what you could get for the bent on ebay...

Definitely fixable a friend bent his 19 inch Maxima rims worst and it looked brand new by the time it was done.

Thanks for the input fellas. I've seen car rims bent up 10x worse that come out looking brand new. Was just curious if it mattered that it was a bike and not a car. I don't want new rims. My bike is a Repsol and everything is original for the most part and I love the orange rims on my bike. Just gotta find a shop that can do it.

I'm not too familiar with bikes so how did you guys go about purchasing your first?
I don't know anyone personally who rides. And I don't wanna have someone sell me a screwed up bike. I would just need someone to check out the bike so I know I'm getting what I'm paying for...should I scope out some local mechanics and throw him some money for the help?

im hearing a lot of people telling me a 250cc will get boring in a couple weeks... 

also, is it me or do some bikes look sooo tiny that it looks like the rider is riding a toy ex. r6

Your level of safety on a bike is completely dependent on your own abilities. You can kill yourself on anything. Sorry to sound so morbid. If you take your time and respect the machine, a 600 is fine.

250 is a joke.

New bikes are getting very small. The new 1000 looks like a 600 to me. You'll be fine with a 600. You're an adult, it's not hard learning how much throttle to give. Just be cautious and smart. Plus learning to ride is very easy. After a few hours, you'll be fine

I know a few people that regret buying a 600 and wish they just got the 1000 to begin with

Bikes are getting pretty small. The new CBR1000RR looks so tiny to me. I think I'll be holding on to my 06 for a while.
