I am saying! Can't tell my man anything though.LOL at OutKast having 5 classic albums
Run DMC had the "machine" behind them. Just so happen to be the biggest group, on Hip Hops marquee label...
I honestly believe what mele mell did (one of the GOATs btw) with grandmaster flash and the furious 5 opened up the floodgates for hip hop. He birthed so much into the game. As a group, Run DMC had great marketing. The group Whodini had a better body of work, in my opinion.
Now, 'Kast is my favorite group (Tribe, Geto Boys, Goodie Mobb, Wu all situated as well)
The Roots are a favorite too (But, Black Thought pretty much is the sole musician, so, it's difficult to categorize them (Kind of like Melle Mel's situation))
Outkast dropped 5 CLASSIC albums in a row, starting when they were 18 years old. Unreal. Speaking about outkast is like Michael Jordan, when he says his older brother Larry Jordan was better. Hell, Mike said he chose the #23 because he was only half as good as his brother, who wore the #45 (that MJ wore for that short span)
That's how good Outkast is. They excelled in every facet. Creativity, lyricism, content, cross over appeal, sound, fashion, performance/stage presence, album sales (from a pre-piracy/downloading era), Outkast is in a league of their own. I love Run DMC, Russ, Rev, JMJ, etc. but even in it's infancy state in the 80s, there were a lot of great group acts in the mid-late 80s, early 90s. Outkast was clearly the best of their timespace, from 1994 and beyond

What machine did Run DMC have behind them in 83/84? **** Clark's American Bandstand was the big show, so from Sugar Hill to them, no other rappers appeared on the show.
Whodini had a better body of work? You're just making up stuff They had two good albums, and were more of a 80's version of Naughty with the anthems.
Black Thought is the sole musician, huh, rapper? What about Malik B or Dice Raw in the early days?
and Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five, had several rappers
Let me stop....
The word "Classic" gets thrown around way too often. Their first album was very solid, but not a classic. Their sophomore album showed growth and was even better. Their third album was a classic and where they peaked. Their next two alums were very solid, but far from classic. The thing is no matter what I say; it's not going to change your opinion. The point of this thread was asking who was bigger, RUN DMC or Outkast. If you honestly believe that Outkast is bigger than RUN DMC then I really can't respect your perspective on the culture of Hip Hop.Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, Atliens, Aquemini,Stankonia,SB/Love Belownot classic albums?

Run DMC was definitely on early MTV, once it started playing hip hop, and the movie Krush Groove. In regards to Melle Mel, you sort of proved my point. He was the frontman of the group, and strictly from a lyrical standpoint, Mel was elite in comparison to Rev Run, and DMC. Black Thought is also the frontman of the roots. Was'nt discrediting the other members but, he's the face. And, I stick to what I said about Whodini. They have a great catalogue.
If you replaced Run-dmc with tribe called quest, this might be some sort of debate.
It's been a bunch of fake 3 Stacks running around for over a decade now.
The Love Below was basically a Prince album
