Outkast or Run DMC?

Man lyrically Andre is way better than Run, and DMC combined. 

Big Boi has an above average flow as well; we can relate more to Outkast due to being somewhat modern.  Man I wasn't even in school when Run DMC started, and by they time they dropped that King album I was only nine or so. That was trash by the way.

Aquemini is the best album to come from any southern hip hop act to date. 

Listening to Outkast right now feels fresh, just look at their discography with three classics. You listen to Run DMC and feel essence of the crack era...the real crack era, not just an artist from the 90s reciting some tales. Boom, bap, echo flow, 5 sentence verses, just not the type of quality you'll get from an Outkast album. 

Run DMC was overrated imo. I like the Geto Boys, and some of NWA, Tribe, and some artists who came at the end of the 80s-early 90s. 

But I never liked Run DMC. As a collective, the flow was weak, and the beats were mad simple. Honestly, I like the Beastie Boys more so than Run DMC. 

The Love Below is a masterpiece, and I agree that Andre has a lot of clones running around today.

I always forget about Mr. DJ. But technically Earthtone 3 did a lot of the production and he's a part of that.

I was born in '90 so I get where you're coming from but at the same time you gotta realize that they made hip-hop a mainstream genre singlehandedly and literally nobody had an impact for the genre like they did.

People in New York listened to Outkast, that doesn't mean they were influential, because they always sort of had their own lane.

Also, a lyrical comparison is not really fair. Run DMC was very advanced lyrically for their time. If y'all are gonna compare the lyricism you have to take the time period into account.

Another thing to consider about Run DMC is not only what they did, but when they did it. They're accomplishments came at a time when there was no "Where Hip Hop Lives" type stations, no Rap City, no MTV Raps etc. Without any of those outlets they still did rediculous numbers, worldwide tours and major endorsements at a time when the average person didn't consider rap as real music.

Let's not forget the fashion. So many ppl now a days wear things they popularized 30 years ago without even realizing where it originated ( Shell Toes, Cazals with no lenses, track suits, Kangol buckets, rope chains etc)

I'm a huge fan of Kast but this comparison ain't even close.

Man...

Not one dude in here is playing Run DMC, and it's cool to keep history in perspective, but you know Outkast makes doper music.

Really, just how short was their reign on top? If Run DMC was so hot how come time passed them by so quick, and people latched on to Rakim, KRS, and so many other artists from that era?

Because they didn't make dope music. They're somewhat praised because they shifted the sound from largely sampling, but everything else in comparison to Outkast is...

I also feel like LL is more legendary than Run DMC. Where LL has lasted for decades, and is currently putting out material. 

Run DMC did the rock thing, but Outkast also put the live band into hip hop, that soulful ****.

I mean if we're going off the history angle, then everyone should have Dr. J over Michael Jordan for the way he revolutionized basketball. He become a player that many wanted to pattern their game after. 

But if you ask who is better between Dr. J and Jordan, most people will end up telling you Mike.

Dre's flow changed the way a lot of rappers do it now. This is also the case with him now being very inconsistent. Although I can say Dre and Big Boi were never complacent on the mic. 

Not one artist today is patterning their style off of Run DMC. Their legacy doesn't compare to what Outkast left behind in terms of the actual music. 

I'm talking musically over everything else, and Outkast wins it with no contest.
