Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Casino is on my top 5 films list. I saw it as an early teen for the first time and it holds a special place as a movie that really made me see the intricacies of film and appreciate acting, storytelling, production values and little details I hadn't prior to. The dynamic between DeNiro, Pesci and Stone is amazing to see unfold.

Also, I didn't see Goodfellas until I was out of high school and while I hold it in high regard I just don't come back to it nearly as much. Another reason could be that I had previously only seen Liotta in supporting roles and at the time didn't really think he could carry a movie. Later on I came around on him but that could also be part of my bias to Casino.

Speaking of Liotta, has anyone seen 1992? Not sure why they held onto this movie for a few years before officially releasing it. It looks kind of cliche' but I still may give it a shot.

Haven't seen that one, but Narc is a good Liotta flick you rarely hear people talk about. Even when it came out it sort of flew under the radar.

getback getback good looks, I had almost forgot about that movie. Was going to watch it years ago but never did. Saw that it's on Prime so will likely get around to it soon.

They should rename napoleon complex to joe pesci complex because he was being a deranged oompa loompa in goodfellas and casino. Glad he met a worst little guy in Home Alone.
Kevin McAllister had some high IQ vibes

“Keycheck space minus O, keychecks off, safety space minus O. He’s turning the safety systems off. He doesn’t want anybody to see what he’s about to do. Now. Look at his next entry, it’s the kicker: “white rabbit object.” Whatever it did, it did it all”

Something I have learned over the years, whatever you saw first between Goodfellas and Casino alters your view.

I saw Casino first. Other that saw Goodfellas first swear by that one.

I just listened to the Casino podcast a few weeks ago and they were also saying similar things how the ones that saw Goodfellas swear by that, and the ones that saw Casino first swear by it. Very interesting thing to me. I love them both, I'm sure most people do, but for me, I enjoyed Casino more. If I had to guess, it's because the narration by DeNiro and Pesci moreso than by Liotta.

But if I saw Goodfellas first, I may think completely differently.

I saw goodfellas first when I was pretty young. I watched Casino as a mid-twenty something and I didn’t like it as much as I’ve liked Goodfellas.

To me, Goodfellas is Dark Knight and Casino is “Rises.” And that’s not a knock on any of the films or their directors, it’s just the way I see it. Could def be the order I saw them in for sure.

I have Casino above Goodfellas, and it's not particularly close. I think timing hurt Casino more than anything. It came out after a run of mob movies, and people might have been a little worn out.

Completely agree

I agree. Goodfellas is a top ten movie for me. I may have seen Casino two times ever

I haven’t watched either in maybe 15 years (feels like I have, because they’re always on as I’m flipping through stations) but I much prefer Casino.

Tonight (Prime)

After watching this, I see what Scorsese was doing with the remake (per my post a while ago about early '90s thrillers). But the original >>>. De Niro essentially did an over the top impression of Robert Mitchum, and let's just say Nick Nolte is no Gregory Peck

It was also cool to see the boiler room scene which was clearly the inspiration behind a pivotal scene in Nightmare on Elm Street :pimp:

darthska darthska can you add this to your Movie list this week. After another short spell of life since we last engaged about Demons and **** like that, I’d be curious to see what your thoughts are on this. Maybe I should have waited until after I watched the film but I went ahead and fell in that tikTOK Hole in the middle of this list and man….people are so funny

I’d pay money for your reaction to this, respectfully.

Watching now.

:rofl: :lol::lol::lol::rofl::lol::lol::rofl::lol:

I’ve always been Goodfellas over Casino. Can’t go wrong though. My friends dad was close with the real Jimmy Conway (Jimmy Burke).
