Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

The Wild Robot was amazing. Visually it was unique and beautiful and on Dolby screens it popped. The story was simple but effective. Great humor, heartfelt moments, and even the score stood out. I think it's an instant classic.

Started The Invitation a lil bit ago.
Invitation to... a suicide cult?
Neat.
What in the Branch Davidians am I watching?
😂😬

I love that main actor too, but it’s a spicy premise yes.

I knew it was Choi!
Everyone who watched that dinner scene knew it was Choi!
Nah, bruh, something still going on.
👀
Keep prodding...

No.

Yes.

Staring out over the hillside with a couple of helicopters off in the distance?
I didn't get it. 👀
First, as you know, the cult has the belief that the only way to create peace after trauma is through death, there’s no other release from trauma.

We see the main dude see that David, the new boyfriend, puts the red lantern up outside when the main character was in that room watching the laptop video.

Then the stuff with the wine and violence/death happens right after.

What you saw when they were looking out at the hills at the end, there were specks of ‘other’ red lanterns being lit or already lit all across Los Angeles hills.

So the characters realize the lantern is a signpost, that confirm coordinated murder parties are happening and their own is not a singular incident. Basically a mass, coordinated cult terrorist attack.

You even hear the characters at the end say “call the police, call an ambulance”, then based on all the lanterns the reality falls on them that it’s gonna be mass chaos and help would be spread too thin around the city.

I can see how this could be missed though if you hadn’t seen all the lanterns when they were looking out at the hills right before it cuts to credits.

It’s just a twist ending, and I think the “is-our-main-character crazy paranoid or not” theme throughout the movie was super entertaining to try to figure out.

Taking a dive into blaxploitation films gonna start off with this just off the title and premise alone. Petey Wheatstraw the devil's son in law 🔥😂.

Petey gets sent to hell but he has a chance to get back to Earth if he marries the devil's daughter .only problem is she's the ugliest woman he's ever seen 😂😂😂

Just got out of The Substance. If I could erase the past 2 and a half hours of my life I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I enjoyed absolutely none of that.
Okay now that I’ve had the chance sleep on it and digest it a bit more my stance has softened a bit.

I will say that I liked the overall concept and the underlying themes of the movie. I also liked Dennis Quaid’s performance, which was apparently based off of Vince McMahon (pretty apparent in retrospect). Overall though the movie was just deeply uncomfortable to watch for a lot of reasons. Relied heavily on nudity, provocative up-close shots, and moments that were designed to make you squirm. That’s not even considering that the movie was somehow both too long while feeling somewhat incomplete at the same time. I felt like there were a lot of plot holes, inconsistencies, and other elements that weren’t fleshed out enough to answer some obvious questions the audience would have. Whole thing seemed like it could be an episode of American Horror Story if they condensed it down properly.

I still wouldn’t watch it ever again, but I won’t tell anyone else to follow my lead. Just brace yourself before going in.

This is flames.

I know with stuff like this, popular opinion is to say "I'm glad with the final result," but I'm going to break that trend on one of these.

Hunter > Predator

I've never liked Predator as a name.
🤣👀😳
"Why don't you have a seat right there?"
😬
