If you saw the SNL performances, particularly the Black Skinhead debut, I don't know how you could've expected a Kanye album that was in any way going to resemble his others.

I didn't expect it to resemble the others based on those performances, but I still expected those things I listed, and I don't think that's asking a lot.
It didn't have to sound like his past work, but it did have to please my ears, and it doesn't. I see he was trying to do something different, but in my opinion he didn't succeed. It just sounds scattered and all over the place.
Some of it sounds thrown together last minute, some of it sounds overdone and some of it just sounds corny.
Semi-side note: I'm In It grew on me a bit.

It's not going to please everyone. What didn't you like exactly about the production.
On Sight, Black Skinhead, I am a God, New Slaves, Blood on the Leaves, Bound 2 all are top notch to me. Aside from Bound 2, they are aggressive in your face hard beats....all bang in the whip as well

Not sure about expecting great melodies or something comparable based on SNL. I think it became clear after not releasing a radio single that the music on Yeezus would not be friendly to the Kanye fan wanting melody.
Great production and great lyrics on Yeezus is certainly up for debate and everyone's entitled to their opinions. For me, the production is incredible on a few levels and the lyrics are a fascinating commentary of a dude who's not ready to settle down with a family.
I dunno I just am not having a hard time listening to this album and I'm definitely a traditional hip hop fan and a huge Kanye fan from the jump. I have a lot of fun with the album, I don't skip anything, and I immediately want to replay when it's done. The innovative production overall is just so dope to me.

Some of them sound crowded. I'm not a fan of what he chose to sample and how he used it. Some of the sounds just don't sound great together to me.

The lyricism is wildly immature at times, even for Kanye, and that's saying a lot.
I've cringed a ton through this album. '***** had me dead' 'sweet and sour sauce' 'like the civil rights sign' the Hampton lines on New Slaves.:x
And by great melodies I don't mean radio singles or anything. The melody for I'm In It and Bound 2 are great. If the whole album sounded like that I wouldn't be complaining.

I mean those are cringe-worthy lyrics of course, but I can't sit here and say when I hear those lyrics I can't listen to the song anymore because I'm so disgusted. I love Action Bronson and that dude be saying some of the worst **** I ever heard but I still mess with his music.
Kanye is a shock-value pop artist now. Like similar artists in history (Prince, Bowie, etc.) he's gonna say and do things that nobody's done before and people aren't going to know whether to except it or not. In time, we'll see whether it affects his career as an artist or not. I'd venture to say it probably won't and Kanye will continue pushing the envelope. That's what we need more of in pop music IMO, risk takers.

And trust, I do appreciate Kanye and what it takes to try to push the envelope and do something completely different, as Kanye has done his whole career.

Thats the best song on that album so I see that, but its admist trash like Good Life, Drunk and Hot Girls, Champion, The Glory, and Everything I am.

Not sure what you mean by purpose to their shock...i think all these uber-talented, controversial artists have purpose to everything they do including Kanye.
And uh...you can't really be in tune with anything your rapping, as rapping does not involve singing musical notes. When Kanye sings/autotunes, he's in key unless he's purposefully pitch-shifting for effect. I know this because I've studied music and music theory for dumb long i dont mean to be a ****

Pretty sure the purpose of the album was to make a **** load of money for Def Jam and Universal Music Group
The purpose of the music on the album being what it is? Because Kanye is an artist in the truest sense (so he says, I agree w/ him) and he has enough clout in the industry to be able to say "this is what I wanna put out" and have exactly that happen. Only a handful of recording artists are able to do that.
