You are not including the things he said afterward in the evaluation of what argument he is making. He saying that he wants the total gaming market to grow, and for Xbox get their share of the growth.

MS narrowly focus console war just trying to steal PlayStation customers isn't good for anyone long term, especially third party partners. That seems to be his point.

I think worrying about PlayStation is the ignoring other places of growth for the, PC, mobile, cloud.

This has been consistent with other things he has said. Executives say things like this all the time. Microsoft's CEO has said this too.

Just worrying about stealing PlayStation customers puts a ceiling on Xbox's growth. And Phil already said it is probably a fool's errand because so many people got entrenched in the PlayStation ecosystem last generation.

Microsoft seems to just want people in their ecosystem, buying games, and subscribing to GamePass. Console, PC, cloud, mobile, they do not care as long as they are growing their customer base.

Focusing on taking PlayStation customers means them just focusing on console. And Microsoft is looking beyond just console for getting players.

-Also, MS has had to push back against the BS Sony has been putting out there that MS is trying to spend them out of gaming. Privately they acknowledge that can't/won't happen.

I hadn't really thought of it from the resource standpoint. That does make a lot more sense. I appreciate the post, thank you.

The FTC trial doc are leaking tons of what Xbox had planned for the remainder of the generation

Bethesda Games, new hardware, etc.

In one email before they bought Bethesda, Phil is talking about playing the long game to acquire Nintendo :lol

They also were trying to buy Warner Bros Interactive but the deal fell through.

Xbox leaked documents are wild. PR about to be working OT

I’m playing Lies of P via GamePass PC. It’s really good so far.

I plan on beating Sea of Stars this week since Im off, then maybe getting back to Starfield

Acquiring Nintendo? Yeah good luck with that

I don't think there's a reality in any multiverse where Nintendo would even entertain the thought of an acquisition.

Phil wasn't saying it was easy to do, in the email he said it not possible now, but if the opportunity ever arose MS would be best positioned to get them.

He seemed to be talking of it more as an aspiration. Not something he thought was likely.

So Bethesda games are

- new doom
- fallout 3 remaster/remake
- oblivion remaster/remake
- new Zenimax mmo
- Indiana jones
- ghostwire Tokyo 2
- dishounored 3

I'm sure that's what Phil meant. I don't think anyone, much less Microsoft, sees Nintendo even ever entertaining the option. Only if some massive change in management or something would happen somehow.
Nintendo is also well known for being arguably the most aggressive copyright-striking company in general, including just outright abusing false copyright strikes on platforms like Youtube with no consequences.

Microsoft and Sony, or really any company I can think of aren't anywhere remotely close to Nintendo's apparent zero tolerance policy.

Anybody trying lies of p? Looks a lot like bloodbourne. gonna download it tonight and see what’s up.

The most disappointing thing about the Xbox leak is the news they are refreshing the controller, yet still not adding back buttons/paddles

Good ******* grief man.

I don't think we'll ever get back paddles for standard controllers. MS and now Sony know that people will pay extra for a "premium" experience.

Their greed is holding back game development

Paddles should be standard because they need not only be available for remapping but also be two extra inputs

Every game that has a double tap, or long press, to navigate a menu, or switch weapons, or activate another system will be made instantly better with extra inputs

I recently bought a controller for $20 on sale that had decent rear buttons. These gaming companies need to cut the ********

People will still pay for Elite controllers

I feel like paddles would overwhelm the average gamer. They’d take a look and be like “yeah that is definitely something I can’t do/learn”

Started replaying Silent Hill 2. Wish 4 and Shattered Memories were backwards compatible.

It won't

The average console gamer probably just plays a ton of Call of Duty

And that is probably the main market for back paddle controllers

A controllers are pretty simple and intuitive. Adding two buttons in a location where people fingers normally sit will be easy for people to pick up.

Back paddles are not some space age advancement. Marketing mainly has made people think that way. You're a "serious gamer" get a controller with back paddles.

At the end of the day, these are toys that millions of children have master how to use. Two more buttons isn't gonna fry anyone's brain.

The people that will probably have the biggest issue with it are heavier gamers that don't like change.
