We were going to lay an egg on this road trip anyway, might as well be to the Bobcats.

It was nice seeing Richardson go nuts.

Enjoy Jrich's contract too while playing under .500 too.

Anyway, this really dims my prediction of 12-4 in March. Damnit.
Pietrus has new focus - a better playoff position
Janny Hu, Chronicle Staff Writer

Friday, March 7, 2008

(03-07) 04:00 PST Miami --

Sometimes, things have to go against a player before they start going for him. Mickael Pietrus wanted a trade from the Warriors for the better part of ayear, but when one didn't materialize, a sense of purpose appeared.

"I feel like the last 25 games, I really need to step up - not in terms of players thinking about contracts, but in terms of the team going go to theplayoffs," Pietrus said. "I want to go beyond the eighth spot. That's my main focus now."

Pietrus, an impending free agent, has had three of his best games this season since the Feb. 21 trade deadline passed without him changing homes.

He scored a season-high 23 points in a win over the Sixers, hitting all seven shots he attempted. He posted season highs of 12 rebounds and fivethree-pointers in a blowout of the Hawks.

In his last five games, Pietrus is shooting 59 percent from the field and 58 percent from long distance. He's even recorded a pair of assists in fourstraight games and blocked at least one shot in five straight.

"I wish he would've been playing that way all year," coach Don Nelson said. "But I'll take what I can get."

Had Pietrus performed this way earlier in the season, of course, his trade value would have been higher and the Warriors might have received an offer forPietrus they deemed good enough to make a deal.

But that didn't happen, and while tonight's game finally brings Pietrus to American Airlines Arena - where he wanted to play this season as a memberof the Heat - the fifth-year forward says he isn't thinking about what-ifs.

"I wanted a trade at the beginning of the season because I wasn't playing a lot and the four-spot was kind of tough for me in terms of getting arhythm and trying to help the team," he said. "But after the (deadline), I'm playing more and coach is allowing me to do better things on thefloor."

Not surprisingly, Pietrus' increased productivity has coincided with increased opportunity. Between Stephen Jackson's ailing left foot and AndrisBiedrins' unexpected appendectomy, Golden State has been playing more small ball and leaning heavily on the wings.

Biedrins, though, went through a full, informal practice with the Warriors' younger players Thursday and will be a game-time decision against theHeat.

That could leave Pietrus with his role downgraded once again, trying to figure out how to be efficient in limited minutes for a team he has a limited futurewith.

"I knew at some point I was going to stay here," Pietrus said of not being traded. "So just enjoy. That's all I got to do."

Barnes near suspension: The next flagrant foul Matt Barnes commits is probably going to cost him a game.

Barnes' flagrant-1 foul on Emeka Okafor in Wednesday's loss to Charlotte - if upheld by the league - will be his fifth point on the NBA'spenalty scale.

Once a player hits five points, he automatically earns a one-game suspension should he be called for another flagrant foul.

A player is assessed two points for every flagrant-2 and one point for a flagrant-1.

Barnes had been whistled for three flagrant-1 fouls prior to Wednesday's game. Two were upgraded to flagrant-2s, while the other was rescinded.

A league spokesman said a final classification of Barnes' foul on Okafor should come within a few days.

Please. Worry about getting to .500 first. And I am a big JRich fan but this dude will NEVER lead a team. He is NOT a leader and is NOT clutch (hemay have hit some shots but dude will never be a "clutch" player). Enjoy that contract and playing under .500 ball.

Who's down for a Warriors Fans Only Fantasy Baseball League?

Are you a Warriors fan who also happens to also be a Giants fan? Are you a Warrior fan who also happens to be an A's fan? If so, then join my FantasyBaseball League. It'll be fun to talk trash about either the Giants or the A's but still find common ground with the Warriors.

It'll be on Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball. We'll get a Live Draft going. H2H league with Yahoo!'s default stats. And we'll iron out the details likewhen is the Live Draft, the league name and password, etc. later. Actually, I was looking at the calendar and I'm targeting a March 17 draft time. There's no Warrior game that night so that's good. I'm targeting setting the draft time to in the evening... start around 5:00pm to 6:00pm March17. If any time conflicts, let me know, we can always move it to an earlier time.

I just need people to tell me that they're interested so I can get a rough estimate on how many teams can be in the league. I'd prefer to have 12-14teams in the league because if we exceed 14, our FA will be crap and if we have less than 12 our FA will be loaded :lol.

I really want to join, but I was never really into baseball. I will watch it and go to a couple games every season, but I don't know enough to join aFantasy Baseball League. Sticking to football and basketball for me.

Nice day today, we beat Orlando. (Didn't think that would happen.)

But my HS application was the nice thing about today. (Yes I'm that little.)
Richardson scores 34 to lead Bobcats over Wizards, 100-97, for 5th win in a row
Preview | Box Score | Recap

AP - Mar 8, 8:15 pm EST

WASHINGTON (AP)-With Jason Richardson leading the way, the Charlotte Bobcats look nothing like the Charlotte Bobcats at the moment.

They know it. And opponents do, too.

Richardson scored 34 points Saturday night, and the Bobcats stretched their winning streak to a franchise-record five consecutive games by holding off the Washington Wizards 100-97.

"It tells us a lot about ourselves. If we play together and go out there and play hard, we have the chance to win a lot of games," Richardson said. "We're just playing for pride right now, and fortunately that pride has translated into getting back into the playoff picture."

Amazingly, that's true. The Bobcats, who are in their fourth season of existence, are suddenly only 2 1/2 games out of the final postseason berth in the Eastern Conference.

After going 1-11 in February, they are 5-0 in March. One indication of the turnaround: Charlotte was 0-3 against Washington this season before Saturday.

"This is a different team than we've seen," said Washington's Antawn Jamison, who had 30 points and 10 rebounds. "The chemistry looks different. You see guys jumping up on the sideline, guys playing with a little bit more emotion than normal. Of course, J-Rich is playing at a high level."

Richardson is averaging 28.8 points this month, and he displayed a bit of everything against Washington. That included a spectacular, reaching-back-over-his-head dunk late in the third quarter-he shot 5-for-5 in the period-and a 5-for-7 start on 3-point attempts.

"Unbelievable," said Charlotte's Matt Carroll, who made his first six 3s and finished with 23 points. "I see it all the time, though. That's not the first time I've seen it. It's not the last, either. … He can put points up quick."

Richardson scored 16 in the first quarter on 6-for-7 shooting, and 11 in his perfect third. Seven straight Bobcats points by Richardson made it 64-52 with 7:15 left in the third quarter.

Raymond Felton, who had 14 points and 12 assists, Richardson, Carroll, Emeka Okafor and Nazr Mohammed are 5-1 as a starting lineup.

"We're playing with a confidence that I don't think we've had all season long. We're playing just as a team, unselfishly together," Carroll said. "Everyone is just playing for one reason-and that's to win games."

This one nearly slipped away, though.

Charlotte led by as many as 19 in the first half and 92-84 with less than a minute remaining. But Washington got to 92-89 on a 3-pointer by Roger Mason Jr. with 28.7 seconds left, and then to 96-94 on Jamison's 3 with 14.8 to go. Mason's two free throws pulled Washington to 97-96 with 10 seconds on the clock.

Richardson then went 2-for-2 at the line, and Washington's DeShawn Stevenson intentionally missed his second foul shot with the score 99-97 and 5.6 seconds remaining.

"If it works," Stevenson said, "it's a good call."

Jamison had a chance at the rebound, but it slipped out of his hands to Carroll, who made a free throw for the final margin. He missed the second, and this time Jamison did grab the ball, hoisting a desperation shot that was contested. Jamison pleaded with the officials for a foul call, but none came.

Charlotte Bobcats' Earl Boykin…
AP - Mar 8, 8:25 pm EST

It was a tough way to end Washington's chance to get back to .500 for the first time in more than a month. Instead, the Wizards fell to 30-32, one game ahead of idle Philadelphia for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

"We knew," Jamison said, "how important this game was."

His team is still without its top two players, point guard Gilbert Arenas (left knee surgery) and forward Caron Butler (hip injury).

"We're just trying to hold on," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.
