Don't be surprised. When the majority of NT doesn't like the guy, why expect us to like him?

You damn right he's a hustler... like how he hustled Ferry into that ridiculous contract.

"Ridiculous"? You're making it sound like Joe Smith is Tim Duncan in the paint

. Maybe, just maybe, but if we don't make themove for Joe Smith, I won't lose any sleep over it. And wouldn't it be funny that last season we pick up Chris Webber and welcome him back with openarms... and next season it would be Joe Smith we're welcoming back? GSW fans might be getting a little soft j/k

. Who's going to be next? MarcJackson? Nick Van Exel's coming out of retirement?

Oops. I got it mixed up when you said Delonte earlier in being off limits. Anyways, Gibson is a good shooter. He really improved a lot lastseason. How does he and Harrington's contract match up for the trade to get done? One concern though is Gibson's size. We'd prefer a larger PG sothat Monta wouldn't have to be matched up with the opposing 2-guard on defense.

He's an injury concern. We're not sure he's healthy. Sure he's played once he got back, but that was limited. I want to know howhe'll hold up in an 82 game season and frankly, I'm not willing to take a chance on the guy. That's just me though.

Yeah, I'm willing to unload Harrington but if it means what we're taking back gives us no upside, then I'd rather keep Harrington.THAT RIGHT! I SAID IT! *prepares for backlash*

j/k. But seriously, I doubt that Harrington will have two bad years in a row. I'm hopeful thathe'll play better next season. Harrington also gives us what Anderson Varejao doesn't and that's a scorer off the bench *once again, prepares forbacklash*

. I understand what Anderson Varejao gives us, what we're getting from Al Harrington and their weaknesses. And I'd rather keep AlHarrington over Anderson Varejao.

One way I see this happening though is if we get a third team into the mix so we don't get any of Cleveland's pieces that don't fit. Consider itMullin!!

Fair enough with Andy; I just really appreciate what he does for the Cavaliers.

As for Joe Smith, he's no Tim Duncan or anything, and ridiculous might have been the wrong word to use, but he has a really good mid-range jumper, andhe's good around the basket, his interior game is probably better than any other Warrior.

The Jason Thompson bubble: The Warriors like him, but 14 is too high (I think)

Posted by Tim Kawakami on June 20th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
* Update: SI.com's Ian Thomsen is joining the Jason Thompson-to-Warriors party. This is getting more than fascinating. Somebody out there is talking thisup big time.

I probably should've put Rider center Jason Thompson into the whole mix of players the Warriors could be considering, mostly if they move down from the 14slot, but I didn't.

Just couldn't imagine him going anywhere near the 14th slot (more like 24), no matter how much the Warriors and other teams have been following him, andfrankly, I didn't ask Chris Mullin about him (or about trading for a lower pick to draft a guy like Thompson) because I didn't see it.

But now… after hearing that ESPN's Andy Katz talked up Thompson as a late riser, and someone who could go as early as 12 to Sacramento or 14 to theWarriors…

Well, here we are. I guess it's possible. Still don't think it's probable. I believe Joe Alexander, Anthony Randolph or Donte Greene are morelikely, if they're there.

However, I do know that the Warriors have liked Thompson for a while. Not as a lottery guy, necessarily, but as an under-the-radar, high-production versatilebig guy who might sneak up the draft board on draft night or might be worth a look-see if they can trade down into the 20s.

Thompson fits the specialized big-man criteria I've repeated countless times: He has enough offense for Nelson to keep him on the floor with either AndrisBiedrins or Brandan Wright and probably enough bulk and energy to body up Amare Stoudemire or Carlos Boozer, for at least a short period.

(This is convincing me this might be real: I kind of consider Thompson the anti-Patrick O'Bryant in the Warriors' eyes. Full college career ofproduction, blue-collar style with some skill, very happy to be physical, some fire in his eyes. I think POB has been downgraded far too much by Nelson and hisstaff, but oh well. That's not changing. If they see a big man who in their minds is the opposite of POB, they're going to like him.)

Long ago, when I asked one scout to give me a guy out of nowhere he'd guarantee was a first-rounder, his answer: Check out the kid from Rider. He'll bea very good player in any style. That's why I stuck Thompson as No. 20 in my Final Four period/early rankings for the draft. Figured it was way too high, but wanted to toss a new name out there.

Little did I know.

Rider doesn't face regular top competition, but Thompson did just fine against Michael Beasley this season. He's a senior, but won't turn 22 untilJuly. His numbers are very good (20 and 12, 56% FG as a senior), again, matched up against mostly lousy competition.

Yeah, I could see Nelson playing him, mixing and matching Thompson with Wright, Biedrins and Harrington.

So I should've included Thompson yesterday and today. I guess if Alexander is gone, Greene doesn't quite enthrall Mullin and Nelson and Randolph seemstoo risky or is gone at 14, Thompson might be a good compromise choice.

It's very possible that Mullin would take Thompson over JaVale McGee, Robin Lopez, Marreese Speights, Darrell Arthur and Kosta Koufos. That I could gowith.

But still, no matter how much I believe the Warriors are intrigued by him, it's a tough sell to take a guy most project as a 25 to 35 guy with the 14thpick, a guy who supposedly doesn't have a large top end and who may not officially measure out to be much taller than 6-8 or 6-9.

Give me a few days. I can convince myself of anything right now. Mostly: I should've had Thompson's name in there for the Warriors, especially ifthere's a hint that they could either move out of 14 into the 20s or if they can keep 14 and pick up another later pick-get their wing and their big manall at once.

Maybe that TE is going to be very useful, after all.

voted for you andrew

i honestly wouldn't mind Thompson at 14. i actually think he'll be gone if we do decide to trade down in the late 20s.

i say if we can somehow pry the 19th from cleveland for Al, we can def. pick up Thompson there.

but all this 'hype' revolving around Thompson could very well be a smokescreen from management to get other teams to take him before us. IF thompsonlands in the top 12, that's just one extra player who will fall into our laps (Alexander, Randolph, etc) leaving us with more options.

I actually remember RealGM going through some upgrading. That sucks.

I hate specific team forums.

There is so much homerism it's ridiculous
smh.gif

That's why I like places like NT where different fans can discuss their opinions and such.
