Official Umar Johnson Thread

People love who they love, I know.

But I'm with Umar on that one. The whole way that small section of the speech unfolded was weird.

Yeah I gotta imagine that's not what he meant because that's embarassing as hell to say. The stereotypical ****ing dudes do when they get a white wife "well y'know, maybe all lives do matter". No reason you have to change who you are to love who you love. Same time though Umar doesn't even have a wife so he has no say, he's too passionate in his views to not be living it.

People should Google...

a) The fact sheet for Biden's day one EOs
b) Trump Administration policy on enforcing Civil Rights protection
c) The Trump DOJ policy on consent decrees and police department investigations vs. Obama's and what Garland has announced they will do
d) Asian American voting trends
e) A economic book international trade, and a subscription to something like Foreign Affairs
f) The filibuster, how it works, and its history of blocking Civil Rights legislation
g) Rand Paul, how the unanimous consent rule works in the Senate, and how he exploited it to block the Emmitt Till Bill last year
h) The process of policymaking in Congress
i) Maybe a civics book to refresh themselves of federalism

Then make a decision about if Umar is on the mark.

Or they can just believe Umar's hot take.

Either way is cool with me

But the man speaks with so much confidence doe

Umar is a textbook example of how far you can get if you can speak with confidence and conviction. Kinda scary to see actually in a world where people dont fact check.

I know people like that in real life lol never really lacked confidence in my life but after meeting them, made me speak with more confidence and conviction my damn self.

It wasn't just the filibuster

What happened is that Mitch McConnell would not schedule a floor vote, so the Dems tried to pass it by unanimous consent.

And Rand Paul blocked it, because as the name implies, everyone has to agree to pass it. Since it didn't pass before the new Congress got sworn in, it got kicked back to subcommittee again.

But a lot of folks will not try to fact-check such a thing, so if Umar speaks with enough conviction, he appears knowledgeable and sincere.

The filibuster might be used to kill it in the future though
