Marvel In, Jonas Out
The expected has occurred, and here's how it was put to me in a call from the 49ers: "The contract of Jonas Jennings has been terminated." While the move was anticipated, it does reflect a difference from what general manager Scot McCloughan said several weeks ago when he responded to a question about Jennings by saying that he was a 49er and that he was under contract.

Did Jennings's decision to stay in Florida instead of participate in minicamp and the offseason program finally force the 49ers to release him? Possibly.

Marvel, here leading the way, is in.

Also the 49ers probably didn't want to make the move unless they had someone to replace him. That's where Marvel Smith comes in. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat is reporting that Smith signed a two-year, $10.5 million deal. Hopefully, Smith isn't nearly as sensitive nor averse to playing nicked up as Jennings was, but he is an older (31) established veteran (went to the Pro Bowl in 2005) with an extensive injury history (he has missed 15 games in the last two years) that could prevent him from being a every-game player.

Jonas is out.

Certainly, it was the right move to finally let Jennings go, and the process was admirable. The 49ers didn't release him until they had a replacement. Now the question is, will that replacement be healthy enough to contribute and if so, how much?

Those unknowns make drafting another tackle, even in the first round (no. 10 overall) a real possibility. No team can have enough tackles, and the last few years, the 49ers haven't had nearly enough. The result? 110 sacks over the past two seasons, more than any other team.

Do we still get an OL with the 10th pick or go in a different direction?

I say DL but OL is still a need. Anything but a QB or WR. I like the signing if he can stay healthy. I don't want him to be Jonas 2.0... oh yeah and I hopethe new found hatred NT has for me doesn't carry on over here lol..

and pat white will probably go higher cuz of how good he's been so far i think...i really wouldn't mind getting him but it looks like we're set atQB. Damon Huard though?!?!? Unless we just draft him and use him in many diff. areas...but, definitely i'd wanna get him

My wish list for the draft includes Maclin, Crabtree, Raji, Brown, Orakpo, and Jenkins. Any of those guys I would be happy with.

with the pickup of marvel smith, i can see the 49ers going defense @ 10 then O-line in the 2nd round.

mocks have BJ raji going at like 12 or whatever the broncos pick is.

SMH at the comments about drafting a RB or finding a replacement for Gore, Come training camp, he'll be back at it. Does any proven professional go 100%when the workouts aren't even mandatory?

what are you talking about? who said anything about a replacement?

frank gore broke down with all his injuries, deshaun foster didn't do any better and thomas clayton never saw the field.

drafting a RB (and a RB can be found in the 4-5th rounds) who has good size at 220LBS+ will help take some blows off of gore, a 2 back system.

the niners organization and mike sing have already said they are looking for that big back n the later rounds.

how does that equate in replacing gore.

Broncos have deal in place to send Cutler to San Francisco
The Broncos will acquire three draft picks and quarterback Alex Smith in the deal

The Denver Broncos have the framework of a deal in place to trade disgruntled starting quarterback Jay Cutler to the 49ers, a source close to the team reports. The 49ers will reportedly send their first and third round pick in this year's draft (10th and 43rd overall), their second round pick in the 2010 draft, aging safety Mark Roman, and former first overall pick Alex Smith.

Talks accelerated after Bronco's CEO and team president announced the club was willing to trade Cutler after trying and failing to contact the young signal caller for 10 days. Sources report that the 49ers were the most aggressive in their offer to secure the young quarterback's services.

This is the end of a long saga for McDaniels, who seemed unable to repair a relationship with his new quarterback after news of a potential trade leaked. Cutler asked to be traded in early March amid rumors that new coach Josh McDaniels looked into trading Cutler for Matt Cassel, McDaniel's former starting quarterback in New England.

McDaniel's first attempt at repairing the relationship failed, with Cutler telling ESPN, "[McDaniels] admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn't sorry about it."

Recently, Cutler forfeited over $100,000 in bonus money by missing more than 10% of his team's offseason program driving the wedge further between himself and the organization. The move comes before Cutler was able to embarrass the Bronco's organization further by missing the April 17th-19th minicamp.

The deal is contingent Smith passing a physical. Smith's shoulder has been an issue since he separated his shoulder in 2007. A bone chip in his shoulder forced him to injured reserve for the duration of the 2008 season.

The move also reunites Smith with former head coach Mike Nolan, who is the defensive coordinator for the Broncos. Smith and Nolan often had a frosty relationship after Nolan made Smith the first overall pick in the 2005 draft.

The 49ers now have the starting quarterback they seemed to be grasping for since 2003. Their aggressive approach to signing Kurt Warner indicated that the 49ers would not let another offseason pass without securing a successful starting NFL quarterback.
April Fools!

^If that article is legit and not a trick then I would be all for it. Also, Isaac Bruce is coming back for one year. AP reported it.
