Oooh! what kind? how old?
5 month old blue nose, her pic is on the last page

No worries I know where you are coming from. The breeder has already given me many options for a new puppy. The day Axel died a new litter was born and she has already saved me a puppy that will be ready in about 8-10 weeks. She has also offered me a pup from a joint breeding she is doing with a fellow breeder incase I want to stay away from the original pedigree or a pup from any future breeding she has. She offers 2 year health guarantees on all of her pups. All of the her dogs are AKC registered and are OFA cleared for hip and elbow issues as well. None of the other pups born from the litters have had any issues in the past 2 years from this pedigree. The vet said that in some rare cases large breed dogs have an enlarged heart and die suddenly between the ages of 4-6 months. We are also looking into the original breeders of the parents as they were import dogs from Germany to see if they have done genetic testing on any heart conditions. I did a lot of research beforehand to make sure that the pedigree was healthy considering that there are a lot of issues with poorly bread German Shepherds from backyard breeders. She is a small breeder in the sense that she only breeds about 3-4 litters a year but she's been doing it for almost 20 years now. I'm still not sure what to do yet but I have time so I will definitely keep looking into the pedigree and see if I can find out more information because I could not go through this again and I would not want anyone to have to experience this either...

Sorry to hear about your loss and my condolences but that is an awesome breeder you went to to have a guarantee like that.

Anyone owns a boxer?

I owned one growing up until my parents split. She was the best a kid could have growing up. Super energetic and playful and very very smart. She took to training really well too.

Medium sized and small dog suggestions ?

Gotta be manly also

My mother gave away her dog ......

What you need to find out, how often does she have her dogs holster and how far back. Trust me, breeders use all kind of excuses to shift blame for something they subconsciously know is their problem. I have seen top breeders do line breeding knowing their dog is producing a serious fault just because the previous litter produce a BIS or Top 10 dogs. Issues like descending testicles, temperament problems, DM, etc ...... Trust me - I'm almost positive this wasn't the first heart issue in those lines ... if all health test have been done and they are shying away from Sires/Dams that have problems you could almost eradicate ... but true that sometimes it came come out of now where. If I was to take another pup, I most likely stay away from any closely related pup or even any of the lineage ........ whatever you do, I wish you best of luck ... you might very get another brother/sister and they live a perfectly long life, but it is a crap shoot ......

The breeder is not responsible or liable for a dog dying from a heart attack unless the breeder knew of a problem and didn't disclose it when they sold the puppy. They are only responsible if there is some sort of negligence shown.
You need to understand the difference between a breeder and a backyard breeder. Is obvious the lady she dealt with at least has an understanding of how breeding work. REAL BREEDERS, will give you a lifetime warranty on hereditary diseases. Of course people that are doing it for the money and this is business problably will shift blame and or flat out lie .... I think you need to get educated on how this work.

I have dealt with the TOP OF THE TOP Buchwald, Truesdale, Tomita, etc ..... I know great breeders and I know shady breeders ... I know does that have a problem on their line but they blame it on the out breed rather than their own. I also know those that if they hear of a problem on their line they will not breed the dog again and bring in new blood. One thing all these breeders do now a days is TESTING TESTING and more TESTING ... I would rather take a dog that has been health tested over generations than a dog that is AKC UKC CHAMPION ETC this means nothing .... YOu know what it takes to register a dog in the AKC???? Just your information the dogs AKC # - they never go out and check ... you can mix a bull-mastiff with a chihuahua and use to golden retrievers to register in the akc and guess what?? THEY ARE AKC register .. a lot of these so call breeders do this ... they leave a bunch of dogs to mate and just use the first two that comes to mind. Anyways, I have deviated ... what I was trying to say is that any real breeder will offer what that lady just offer - another pup or refund ... only a shady person would say NO!

About how tall do they get?

I believe they go from 21-25 inches ... of course you might have some shorter or taller, but that's consider a fault if you was to dog shows. in addition the colors are fawn or brindle - plain or with white markings. White boxers are also consider a fault and should only be sold as pet animals ...

The white markings shouldnt be more than 1/3 of the dog and it shouldnt have unattractive and like a half white face or dog eye patch.

They are high energy and strong minded .. loyal but playful .. they are at times stubborn and when young they are like a 3 -4 year old - they don't want to listen and can drive you nuts .....

This is summer during our Christmas Family Picture .... sorry for the cutouts ... lol

So worth the frustration with owning a boxer though, right? I love my 7-yr old pup to death lol.

My dude lost 19 pounds :hat

:eek :eek

How'd you do that? What's the secret? :lol

For my life, I can't figure out how to get my dog to lose weight :{

He had pancreatitis during the summer so I'm extra careful on what he eats... I just don't know what to do... If I give less food, I'd be starving him

Lol well for one, he gets about 2 1/4 cups of food a day, plus one apple and one banana between meals. I also walk him three times daily. Each walk is around 1.5-2 miles, plus I play tug with him for at least 30-35 minutes a night. On the weekends I'll increase the walks to 2.5-3 miles but I'll only walk him twice. This will be his routine for the rest of his life.

Ahhh seems like you walk him a lot more than I do... I walk my dog 4x a day, 15 minutes per walk... Not sure how far I walk him though

What food you feed? I feed him twice a day... 4oz wet/3oz dry per feeding

Looks like I'll have to have to increase his walks for sure

How long did it take for you to notice a change? How much did he weight before and after the weight loss?

My little guy is about 38lbs :{

He went from 111lbs to 92lbs.

I feed him a food called Nulo freestyle adult trim. I also used a food called "Fat Dog" by Natural Balance. They're two good quality weight loss dog food. I did cut back his food to two cups up until his desired weight, now I'm feeding to maintain.

He's lost that in 3 months.

I'm always reading up on foods to make sure he's eating good... I give him Taste of the Wild now

I'm going to look into the food you mentioned... Thanks

I think you're overfeeding TBH.

My dog is a Lab mix, and most Lab owners I know feed there dogs between 1 3/4cups and 2cups to maintain a weight of 85-90 lbs.

Every dog is different though. I think you should start slowly lowering his food intake. Start lowering a 1/4 cup at a time and watch his weight for changes. A slow steady weight loss is what you're aiming for.

Mine is a Puggle... Pug/Beagle which from the Pug side, they wanna eat non stop

He bothers me all the time to eat :lol I thought I wasn't feeding him enough, that's why I was scared to lower his intake

I gotta do more research like you did about what other dogs of his kind are eating on a daily basis

You cant feed them based off of them looking hungry because if your dogs overweight, it means he's getting a surplus of calories so he's getting too much food.

If I fed my dog whenever he looked hungry or bothered me for food, he's be 200 lbs lol.

:lol :lol Yea it doesn't work me with the extra food, I just ignore him

I think I found out a new routine... 4ounces of food plus green beans for his first eating then 4ounces plus an apple for his second feeding

I took him this morning for a mile walk, took 25 minutes... It felt good :lol Only bad thing is I live in NY so it's being cold now :|

I honestly don't know what's a 4-600 dollar boxer. I used to breed for conformation (dog shows). If you are buying from a least accomplished kennel or from Sire/Dams that aren't CH or don't have a strong pedigree ... They run anywhere between 1000-1500 for pet with a spay neuter contract. 2000 - 3000k for a pup that can finish the championship. Of course if they parents are champions and they have a strong pedigree and the kennel is well established those prices will get high especially to the avg home .

400-600 sounds like a person that had a loving boxer and just found another one to breed to. No health test, not serious show homes, etc .... Not saying is bad because you can get a bad puppy from anywhere ... But they aren't show dogs.

Just a great loving companion that should be love just the same or if not more .... Some show dogs have a hard life because they go from show to show and kennel most of the time.

However, this doesn't mean one is better than the other ... They both can be very loving and affectionate and the right puppy/dog for your family.

yeah .. This girl is stubborn and sometimes she doesn't listen and can take u right to the edge but that expression is priceless ... Lol
