I thought his response to defunding the police would have been more aggressive

I think one point needs to be corrected: we can't destroy this planet; however, we are destroying its ability to host humans.

When it comes to the police, the most important thing shouldn't be defunding it; it should be ending qualified immunity and civil asset forfeiture. These are the two legal tools that place cops above other civilians. The second thing that should happen is institute nationwide policing standards that will be periodically reevaluated by a national board; make it possible for that board to award and revoke officer licenses to make sure that cops with a history of misconduct and misuse of their equipment don't get hired somewhere else. Defunding the police without addressing the above doesnt do much to solve the issue of police misconduct IMO.

Bernie also made a very good clarification regarding his objection to defunding police: cops are not trained to deal with the myriad of issues people in distress call cops to solve, and it doesn't help that PDs across the country only look to hire those dumb enough to follow any order (but not dumb enough to shoot themselves with their own guns). From their handling of the protests, we can clearly see that American cops have no understanding of how to use their weapons, no understanding of crowd control/crowd psychology, no understanding of ethics, and no understanding of Democratic principles and the role of citizens, the press, and all other elements that make up a democratic society; essentially, most are unqualified to have that badge on their chest, and they've been milking the system for too long.

Redirecting that overtime money into things like better hiring practices and actual professional training would also go a long way towards reforming police.

I don't ignore that fact as it relates to Obama. I have said that I was/am proud of Obama on multiple occasions.

But that does not negate the reality as it relates to RBG.

And it does not negate the reality of this recent nomination by Trump.
