***Official Political Discussion Thread***

damn. i had to miss the debate because i was at a fancy fundraiser for mazie hirono. senators tim kaine and jack reed were there. out of all the political fundraisers i’ve been to, the only one that stands out to me has been 2008 obama. that dude was electric.

looking forward to watching the debate highlights tomorrow morning.

During the next debate, while Lizzy is spitting, Julian Castro gonna be behind her like...

I feel kinda sorry for dude.

He seems like he is a competent civil servant that is being thrown under the bus because of Trump's ****ery.

yeah he didn’t deserve that. It’s Trump’s policy and he isn’t in a position to fight that, unless she wants him to go and kick Stephen Miller’s ***......

I wanna say thank you to all the democratic candidates taking the time to focus on Bloomberg last night regardless if it was strategically correct move for them individually to go after him. They put standards and decency above what would be the strategically Correct decision for them to do during a debate to tear down that bigot in a public forum and that was needed

As someone studying to become a political scientist and researcher I gotta say it’s so got damn annoying how many people don’t know the difference between political ideologies. If I have to hear one more person call Bernie a socialist or communist during a debate or in the media...read a damn book

If you find it annoying now, wait until Bernie starts debating with Trump. I guarantee his team of people will make this a leading point like Trump’s false equivalency of making the economy = the Dow

It also doesn’t help that Bernie calls himself a socialist and doesn’t correct anyone when they call him one either.

the people on stage know what socialism is. They’re banking that voters/viewers don’t

If moderate Democrats really wanted to "stop" Bernie Sanders, they should've backed Warren when they had the chance.

Warren isn’t a moderate Democrat either. That’s why you see Joe, Amy, Pete, and nutsack up there pandering for the moderate vote and it’s also why Pete spent so much time attacking Amy last night. Bernie and Warren are splitting the progressive vote and it’s also why Warren is going to lose because it’s pretty clear Bernie is much better at it

in terms of political views it’s pretty much Bernie all the way left, Warren slightly right of him, Pete and Amy somewhere in the middle between Bernie and Republican, and Bloomberg and Biden are basically republicans trying to pray Pete’s gay away

Well it's a good thing that after years of falsely calling everyone from Jimmy Carter to Bill Clinton, calling Obama a Marxist and even Communist regularly and basically changing definitions as they deem politically expedient, red baiting doesn't seem to have the same effectiveness or sting that it once had

Also doesn't hurt that people have educated themselves a bit more on the matter

Bernie Sanders leads Donald Trump in polls, even when you remind people he’s a socialist

He's a self styled Democratic socialist, a mild form of the European model which is basically just a form of regulated capitalism combined with expansion of the welfare state in practice, which only sounds radical in a county with an extremely right leaning overton window as the US.

Also we can't act as if the GOP aren't gonna disingenuously and dishonestly label and fear monger about any and all candidates under the Dem banner regardless

The poll #'s from the article above actually showed better #'s against Trump when the word socialist was used in the framing

I just don't think it's gonna have any real effect once people hear about the actual policy over scare tactics.

I'm just shocked at how woefully unprepared Bloomberg looked last night in spite of all the money spent and the fact that all of these attacks were easily telegraphed.

Like he knew he was going to be attacked on stop-and-frisk and all the sexual harassment lawsuits yet he still looked completely stunned blinded by them bumbling and stuttering

He would've probably been better off skipping the debate and just banking on his shock and awe media strategy,he got absolutely manhandled

I don't think you can run for president as a Democrat if you were former prosecutor or had anything to do with the criminal justice system. no matter how good you were, they're always be cases that the left will skewer you for. Look at what they did to Kamala and now look what they're doing to Amy.

the question I would ask the other candidates is, "can you name a single or former prosecutor in the country that you like or approve of?" Or his being a former prosecutor simply a disqualification?

It’s pretty clear he spent all his time and money making an alternative universe where he was Obama’s left hand man

I thought the same thing. All of the candidates who are running ads and took to Twitter pretty much detailing every indiscretion Bloomberg has had (treatment of women, his comments on trans people, and his defense of stop-and-frisk and redlining, donating tens of millions of dollars to Republican candidates so they could defeat Democrats, etc). You think he'd be prepared but really I'm not sure what you can say. You're running as a Democrat and your record has some of the least liberal policies on it.

KC, MO Mayor, QuintonLucas, just spoke at a prayer breakfast at my organization. Wanted to speak with him afterwards but he got whisked away like he was the president.

Fixed. No one is saying this ****

Nope, saw it on my timeline. I don’t believe that. I think the debate went terrible for him. And I don’t think any of the candidates on that stage have a realistic chance of beating Trump. But Bernie has the best shot.
