With everything that Florida ( especially Jacksonville as of recently) is going through at the moment, I'm glad Gillum was able to breakthrough in such a staunchly red state.
He's the first African American nominee for Governor in Florida if I'm not mistaken, which is crazy in and of itself but speaks to the amount of black oppression that is historic within the states history ( Rosewood and others like it is a reminder).

He has a Bernie like platform which I believe can appeal to the far left and middle of the party as well as voters who are on the fence. He was instrumental in implementing the Ban the Box policy in Tallahasse. If Florida is able to turn the blue, this could go a long way in it becoming a swing state in 2020.
