We must move forward. How is it that the places to acquire black lung now, are the same as in the 1960s? Libbies focus on race relations and wealth inequality, but the true barometer for society is in ease of acquiring the black lung

Side note, but if my future children aren't born with the black lung, then i'll have those pansies adopted by an LBGT couple to put them where they belong

While I don't think she gave the best answers to some questions, she seems very frustrated at the current state of things. But she makes some very strong points about how we have to view our current situation within the context of history. The last 30 minutes of the interview is its best part. She makes some good recommendations for further reading too.

The ironic thing is I am an econ guy so I should be hyping up the role of big data. I am left wing so I should side with the theory of manufactured preferences. Yet, I believe, on this issue at least, that social media and sophisticated data models are overrated. All it takes is some common sense and some attention to detail and you can inflame almost any body politic. The fears and anxieties in our own body politic are especially and comically visible and plain to see for any reasonably observant foreigner.

Now, the GOP more than likely did assist the troll farms but the help was no so much as content creation but rather it was information about how best to spend scarce ad dollars on facebook.

Before 2005 and the botched Bush administration response to Katrina, many people outside the US didn't know about the poor side of this country. Before social media, it was hard to explain - and harder for foreigners to believe - the state of the justice system, education, etc... and how punishing the system was on minorities compared to Whites.

Anybody who knows anything about geopolitics could foresee that the racial division embedded in American institutions and the refusal of the socioeconomic majorities to address it was going to be the failing point of American society.

Divide and conquer. Works every time.

Regarding the Nikki Haley "with all due respect, I don't get confused" controversy about the Russia sanctions. Last week she publicly announced upcoming sanctions and said Mnuchin would announce them on Monday but the WH quickly walked that back and blamed Haley as "confused".
Now Russian media is reporting the US told Moscow there are no upcoming sanctions.

I forgot the article but someone made a great point that conservatives should hate Confederate statues because they are basically participation trophies.

Like the South lost, they got washed, the entire institution the South was trying to protect got outlawed too. Then the North treated those white loser racist with kid gloves after the War.

Dudes wanna talk about the glory and strength of the old South, but they shot a fair one with the North and caught an L. Then cried like lil babies when the war ended.

So the statues need to come down, because they celebrate is a legacy of racism, treason, and failure.
