A lot of gun owners feel like their guns and the right to own them are the only thing standing between them and an oppressive police state all the while supporting the side that is implementing an authoritarian regime lead by Putin

i get owning 1 or 2 guns in anyone’s collection for sporting purposes or for home or self defense

but there’s some gun nuts out there that stockpile weapons for armageddon or something

Obama reaching his full potential as a president or even close was to it, was too dangerous for white supremacy. He had to be stopped

It could have spelled the end for the economic terrorism the GOP loves to inflict on the brown and poor in America.

Like putting all the good center-left and left-of-center policy aside, a wildly successful would have formed an "Obama Coalition" that could have ruled for decades just like the New Deal Coalition.

No the economic side, left of center economics would have gotten people a taste of social democracy, and have them feindin for more. High subsidies private plans would turn into public options, and then to Medicare buy-ins. Free community college would turn into free four-year college; jobs bills would turn into job programs.

On the cultural side, it would have proven to marginalized groups that things can get done when you vote. With an empathetic president and a functioning Congress, the oppressed would have gotten their first taste and good governance, and that would have started a lifelong affinity for the left and Democratic Party. If the black vote got rewarded, and turnout remained high, then that would probably have been the beginning of the end of the current GOP. If you could get the same demographics of 2008 to turnout year after year, combined with the shift in demographics, then it would be a bloodbath for conservatives all over the country regularly. The Republican Party would have to revert back to a moderate party to regain relevance.

But alas, the Tea Party was very successful, and a massive wave of white nationalism swept over the country in 2010; and it is a census year made things a million times worst.

Then Trump came along and ramped up the white supremacy and white nationalism to another level. But we really should have expected it. The GOP has been marching towards a person like Trump for decades. Every time you think they might go back to the center and be reasonable, they chose to go further right and sink further into white supremacy.

Goldwater, Reagan, Gingrich, Chaney, Palin, Cruz, Trump.... And may god and his socialist son "Comrade Jesus" help us at what comes next.

But yeah, if bigotry and white identity politics keeps giving you the W, why stop. Especially when so many on the left seem comfortable with watching democracy slip away, their institutions destroyed, and time bombs being placed on the economy. Expecting one day that "sensible conservatives" will step in and stop things from getting too bad. Without realizing that those people never stepped in before, and are pretty much nonexistent now (on the federal level).

bravo
this the type of words i won’t hear on the msm

They must teach very different things at the churches in the south

At mass when I go it’s always peaceful messages and love

While I don’t agree with my churches stance on homosexuality and what they have done in the past with pedophiles

Sometimes I’m very proud to be catholic

I don’t pretend to be an expert on what should be in each specific bill, and I will never be an authority on the number of bullets that should be in an ammo clip, or the proper way to conduct background checks before selling someone a firearm. That’s the proper responsibility of our legislators, and, should constitutional questions arise, of our courts. However, there can be no denying that, in the wake of Newtown, Aurora, Blacksburg, Tucson, Columbine, and almost countless other horrific and senseless deaths by guns, that something must be done.

For me, regulating and controlling guns is part of building a Culture of Life, of doing what we can to protect and defend human life. The easy access to guns, including assault weapons, that exists in our nation has contributed towards a Culture of Death, where human life and dignity are cheapened by the threat of violence. No law, no piece of legislation, will ever be able to protect us from every act of aggression, or from the harm that can come from an individual bent on killing. But, we must do what we can to minimize the opportunities for such acts, by limiting the easy access to guns – and, I would add, by increasing funding for programs to treat those who suffer from mental illness, especially those that might lead someone to commit mass murder.

For people who talk about the white man as if they are the second coming of Lucifer and who generally believe systemic racism permeates all facets of society, I find it baffling that you are so dismissive of pro-gun ownership arguments ...

It's like you don't trust white men and hate the Donald yet want to give them the authority to tell you what kind of gun you can buy and if you can buy a gun at all ...
Those arguments are rooted in fantasy and ignore the reality that whoever has the element of surprise (that person will always be the aggressor) can kill the good guy with a gun before he can process what's going on.

That's why cops preemptively shoot suspects (in the US).

That's why security guards hide when they hear gunshots.

And understanding all of this requires an understanding of human behavior more than it requires a thorough knowledge of guns.

Is the idea of conservative pro-gun cats that feel courage comes attached to a gun....such a stupid assumption, proven by this one police officer who was armed and TRAINED and couldn’t muster up the courage to face the shooter.

Btw it boils down to this, whites aren’t afraid of other whites armed, they will DEFINITELY be afraid of minorities being armed...want change bruhs, ARM YOURSELVES, sadly this is the only way to change conservative pro-gunners minds.

Someone said if every black, latino, and middle eastern man legally purchased an AR-15, they'd be banned in 48 hours. Can't find the lie in that.

I was raised Catholic myself along with going to catholic school pretty much grades 1-16 and their stance on guns is universal.

In terms of homosexuality and it’s acceptance I think this is more of a priest denomination approach more than anything else. I went to a Jesuit high school and college that taught differently. It was to accept and let all people just be themselves. The intentions of a person were more important than whatever their orientation and preferences are. Granted I also grew up in NYC so progressive approach is always ahead of certain regions of the US.

I’ve grew away from the church and just all religions in general but I respect Jesuits and Franciscans for two things. The first is that they focus on education and push the envelope by being more progressive than their peers. And two, the ones that actually pledge are serious about their pledges towards the religion. They mostly seem to live the pious and difficult life that is taught. Relative to my experience with other catholic priest groups, which to me have a lot of hypocrites.

So an armed, trained officer was actually at the school and the shooter wasn't stopped, but a teacher will do it?
