On a kinda unrelated note, I'm in Shanghai and their infrastructure is ****** great compared to Los Angeles or NYC.

Major Asian cities have been light years ahead of US cities for decades when it comes to infrastructure. I'm not sure how people that move from those cities to here put up with the trash public transportation and roads we have :{

One thing I've heard from everyone I know who has traveled to the US is that the public transport infrastructure is generally pretty terrible. I am legally barred from driving due to my depth perception, or rather lack thereof, so it's a blessing that our public transport is so great here. I live in a small rural town and have easy access to most of the country through public transport.

Well the drivers here seem like major a-holes compared to LA drivers
American drivers are way more polite than the ones here in China

Drivers are a different story. Half the countries in Asia have streets full of GTA drivers. Straight up free for all :rollin

I can only speak on these major metro areas:

Bay Area has BART and Caltrain , but they only go to very central parts of the cities, and from there it's a major headache to hop onto one or two other different types of transit to get to anywhere else. That's why I avoid it all together unless I have to go somewhere during peak traffic.

LA literally has nothing of any use unless you count DTLA-Santa Monica

NYC has the best subway system. Only drawback is that half the trains are nasty as @#$@

Chicago has a decent metro as well. Sometimes the stops are 15-20 mins walk from where you need to be, which normally wouldn't be bad, but it's terrible during the winter because of the brutal weather :x

Man do I hate Trump with a passion. Hasn't even been the President for a year and he's the worst thing to ever happen to this country.

It's by design.

Deliberately calculated decisions from centuries past.

Definitely. I remember seeing pictures of the original BART map and LA's old rail system :{ All torn up to support the car industry
700

Bay Area residents know how useful this would be in current traffic conditions :lol

truth be told thats the least of our problems
It's actually a big problem. Crappier infrastructure=more congestion and bigger maintenance problems=productivity losses.

Obama could have helped us get out of this infrastructure decline, but the Republicans decided to put a wrench in his plans to improve our infrastructure. Damn shame really.
Also same repubs almost tried to block funding for the additional construction of the high speed rail up in Nor Cal if I recall this year.

LA Metro is so trash. I'm fortunate enough to live right near a station so it's convenient for me for work. But I'd never use to get around town unless I'm going Downtown or Santa Monica.

I'm hoping we win the Olympics bid though to speed up some of the extensions they're doing 8o

Feel like you could say the same about most of Europe too infrastructure wise compared to NA

Infrastructure is a HUGE problem. I work at recruiting fairs every few months, and many qualified applicants can't afford to travel to our office or are unable to sit through 3-4 hours of traffic due to having to get back home on time for family obligations. An efficient infrastructure would help A LOT

Same in Atlanta and why MARTA is so small and our public transit is **** it was setup that way on purpose because they didn't want certain people(guess who) to be able to move easily around for opportunities (jobs housing etc)

Racist decisions of decades past is the reason we have terrible public transit and terrible traffic today in this city

When I've taken public transit in the states I think "what type of crazy **** am I gonna see today".

Never in Asia though.

I lived in china for many years... it will wear you down quickly. Hong Kong on the other hand, is unrivaled in my opinion.

^What I dislike about the future LA Metro and BART is that while they're better than nothing, the routes seem to be going through just central parts of the cities. It kind of ruins the purpose when you have to drive or take the bus to the train station every day.

That's why in the US, NYC has the best and most international style branched out system, with a station available within a 10 minute walk no matter where you're at.

Too bad LA roads are still cheeks. And CalTrans and LADOT are very inefficient at times.
