***Official Political Discussion Thread***

We've been there before:

Change is scary; rapid change is scarier. The masses will respond accordingly.

MLK the man had various waxing and waning of popularity but civil rights movement was popular.

Civil rights was a case of a broadly popular movement overcoming minoritarian interests.

people have rid themselves of this "arc of history bends towards justice" naivete. There is no guarantee that your political and social preferences will just magically win out over time.

The civil rights movement was popular in principle (hence high support for the law), until folks saw what it would take to actually make everybody enjoy the same rights (enforcement).

And sentiment kinda soured.

It's the same with housing, trans rights, or any other kind of issue that challenges our existing social/economic structure. It's very easy to express support for marginalized groups in the abstract. It's the enforcement part of the law that separates those who actually support them from those who are indifferent to their fate.

again you are just acting like this is all gravity and fated to happen, its not.

sentiment soured after his death partially because of the violent protests that erupted post MLK assassination.
actions matter, nothing is inevitable.

its not all the same. all those issues race, sex, gender, are wildly different and have wildly different political trajectories.
you want to say its the same because it absolves you from actually reckoning with public opinion and on the ground politics.

It clear that the Democratic parties grip on low trust men of color is weakening.

i don't how to win them back,
but I don't think it will be via scolding.

Democrats really gave Trump a layup by giving him an opportunity to become a hero. He's going to look even better among young voters because now Trump will be known as the man who saved the TikTok (Even though Trump is the same guy who initially thought of the TikTok ban in the first place).

Democrats are really lost in the wilderness until they find better leadership.

His own Supreme Court banned it just so he could re-instate it a day later.

All these "The Dems goofed and handed Trump an easy win" arguments just seem lazy when you consider what lead to this.

Again in practice what people are saying is "The Dems should have dropped support all for Ukraine and Taiwan because they should have predicted that Trump would have won the election, with a swing in young voters no one saw coming, and eventually flip flopped on the issue after ByteDance cut a deal with him over dinner"

Nelly should have just said "the check cleared" instead of trying to normalize Trump and say Joe Biden is the real racist

"show proof that Trump is a white supremacist"

As if any amount of proof would change his mind. Ninety nine out of a hundred times when somebody ask for proof of something, they'll just stick their heads in the sand when they get it.

Getting a "Get Out" vibe from this, with the algorithm standing in for the mansion.

Birtherism
Central Park 5
Mexicans aren't sending their best
The Muslim ban

Sure Nelly, he's a changed man...

Biden gave billions to HBCUs and gave $300/month/child to low to middle income families, but I see Trump's $250 million to HBCUs and a single $1200 stimulus check for months of quarantine weigh more.

Go get your paper and stop treating people like fools

"The Dems should just ignore the laws for feel good outcomes"

Trump disregards a Supreme Court decision and gets praise. What the **** is wrong with this young generation?

The Great Firewall: am I a joke to you?

This take ignores that the Chinese government has made it extremely difficult for ordinary Chinese people to communicate with average people overseas.

Young Americans may be merging with something, but that something is more likely to be Chinese internet monitoring services.

When you understand that Trump is an agent….thats doing the service of BRICS & Oligarchs…..everything is crystal clear

Heard Trump saved Tik Tok by Executive Action?
Part of the law said the President can delay the ban for 90 days if ByteDance as a buyer and is the process of divesting. So basically the President can give an extension to get a sale done.

Trump annouced he will sign such an executive order on Monday, so ByteDance is thanking him.

They still have to sell the company in 90 days, they probably have to annouce who they are selling to this week, or ease the ban goes into affect.

He can't save it by strictly executive actions, esepcially today, when he is not even president yet.

Right now, it is just an extension

I'm are sure all the cryto bros that whined about Pelosi for years will be totally cool with this...

The $TRUMP memecoin — a financial asset that didn't exist on Friday afternoon — now accounts for about 89% of Donald Trump's net worth.

Why it matters: The coin (technically a token that's issued on the Solana blockchain) has massively enriched Trump personally, enabled a mechanism for the crypto industry to funnel cash to him, and created a volatile financial asset that allows anyone in the world to financially speculate on Trump's political fortunes

Trump will let cryto markets be a ****show, to enrich himself.

And if companies and foreign governments a method to pay him off

:{ :lol
