These kinds of intermediaries have been around forever. Every year I have to complete compliance training about how to deal with them (high level: don’t). So it’s a real thing, but one you usually associate with fairly corrupt nations.
I was mainly referring to Santos describing his business as “capital introduction”, and then proceeds to describe an intermediary hustle instead.

I’m sure intermediaries are a fairly common thing across the board nowadays. Referred to as middlemen, they’re very common in the social media business so I’ve had to deal with them for about a decade.
Generally they’re one of the following:
1. They have a good dealmaking reputation and often use that to launder deals from not so legitimate activities/individuals through an air of legitimacy

2. They’re crooks acting as a front for bigger crooks (hacking, sim-swapping etc) but they’re still reliable dealmakers

3. Straight up crook/scammer

Some are just regular folks with a sterling reputation of course. When someone seeks to buy a social media username from me, I demand the full payment upfront so I’ve occasionally I’ve had to call in a middleman at the buyer’s request. The middleman holds the money (+ an extra 5-10% cut from the buyer) and the account, then sends me the money upon confirming that the buyer received the account information.

They’re quite handy to have around tbh, but most fall into those first 2 categories.
Some of them easily clear 6 figures/year solely off middlemanning.

Even the NYT pitchbot couldn’t come up with a take this scorching hot

One of its advantages over Telegram is you don’t get weird random Russians every other day

Every time a new revelation comes up it pisses me off because I think a lot of this wouldn’t have been dug up if he didn’t double down. Then asides from the fact that some of the things he lied about were downright asinine because they weren’t that critical but he REALLY didn’t think of any cover stories??? Horrible criminal and liar.

The GOP deserves him.

When will folks like CNN realize Republicans do not care how they get elected, so long as they continue to push the agenda from the top down

It's like playing chess with a known cheater then getting upset when they start cheating, doesn't make any sense

I still have yet to find a clear answer as to why this was not uncovered during the election, I used to work in politics and have worked as a paid staff for a congressional campaign before. These types of things are typically researched HEAVILY, especially claims of Jewish heritage as it usually leads to an influx in donations (they very strongly support their own)

Has his opponent come out since this has broke? Did they try echoing these falsehoods previously? IF not, I actually tend to agree with Santos that he didn't really run on these things and they were really just on paper. (still wrong and corrupt but would explain slipping through the cracks)

At this point almost everyone in the GOP has their own “When keep it real goes wrong” skit. White House, House of Reps, Senate, Supreme Court, Governors, Mayors, vocal “influential”/“famous” supporters. All of em. You almost have to go out of your way to assemble a cast of this many consistently unscrupulous idiots at every single damn level from the top to the base
