My advice is: forget the 17-85. It's really not performing very well (soft, heavy distortion in the wide end, slow aperture...)....Originally Posted by KlassSickFresh 87
Please HELP!!! i just got my tax return and I'm finally upgrading from the XTI kit lens. What would be the best walk around lens for the money? I was thinking the 17-85mm IS or the 28-135mm IS, but I noticed that the 17-85 goes for a little bit more money but I don't know why? thanks in advance!

I'm thinking of any of the following:
*Ricoh GR digital II
*Ricoh GX200
*Panasonic LX3
*Canon G10 (or G9 if I get a good deal).
Santi - now that you've used the G10 for a while, how do you feel about the switch from the D90? I want something I can bring everywhere I go and not carry around luggage if I'm not really going out just to shoot. I'm selling the 40D any day now, all lenses are gone.
i see. u shoulda said so then haha. i assumed it was strobed since youve been strobingOriginally Posted by elboricua 6

Actually I took that picture several weeks ago - probably more like a month ago ... I had no gear what so ever and it was done with a flashlight ... no reflectors, diffuser or anything what so ever .. flashlight set up on a rock to shine on the face while I try to take the picture ...
Now that's what I wanna hear...Originally Posted by SaNTi0321
I love the G10. As long as you keep it under ISO 400, you're good. I think in Good lighting it performs just as well as a DSLR would.
Hmm.. Maybe you're right but you can also carry it in the strap around your neck inside the jacket?.. It is lighter than a DSLR so that'san option...Originally Posted by Mr Fongstarr

Well....I can speak for the G9/G10 and that camera is just as bad carrying around a DLSR in my opinion. You can stick that think into any kind of pocket and if any, it can go in a jacket but it seems heavy...almost to the point where I would rather just carry a DSLR. I've said this before.....I would just go for a small point a shoot instead and pocket the rest of the money.

It's all speculation right now regarding the A800. It would make sense for Sony to release new model the last 2 quarters of the year though. They released the entry-level Alphas (A200/300/350) last year followed by their top-of-the-line full-frame model (A900). They need to fill the gap between theentry-level and full-frame models.Originally Posted by Forgot About Jae

Is CMOS really that much better than APS-c ????
i NEED a truthful answer on this. Im looking at an a700 sony to replace my already sold a300. I sold the a300 with a flash + 28mm prime lens for 700, and a camera I foundfor another 135 to use for this purchase.
I could just buy another a300 for like 385 on ebay then a flash for 200 with my discount and have this money left over..but I wanna know if CMOS is worth it for real ? The a700 also has DOF preview and 5fps, plus is weathersealed
I have an A300 right now and will probably keep it until I get done with grad school in 2011. Then it's on to full-frame. I might switch to Nikon/Canon, but who knows what Sony will have come up with by 2011.
Im figuring that.. I swear to GOD if Sony messes up and stops their alpha line Ima run somebody overThey need to hurry up for real though. If a800 comes out and it has video mode I'll pray we have a corp. discount at work, thats how i got 35% off on my a300. $390 new. Any idea about pricing?
Speaking of a700 I coulda bought one with a Vertical grip for like 875 on ebay
I got a BUNCH of maxxum lenses for sale bruh..
3 50mm f1.7s and 2 70-210mm beercans...Buyin in bulk off ebay and reselling so hit me up.

Why would you need so many? I have a 4 gig and I haven't even come close to filling it up....but then I always dump them onto my computer after each shoot.
