its more money but if your working with the d40 i'd recommend the af-s 70-300mm VROriginally Posted by kicksgetmehigh
I was on the fence about posting in this thread not knowing if I'll get a response but here goes....
I'm looking to buy a zoom lens as well as a wide angle lens for my D40
I found this Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Telephoto Zoom Lens for 140.00 on Adorama.com but I'm not sure if it'll fit on my camera because I was told to make sure the lens is AF-I or AF-S.
Will this fit on my D40?

All the reviews look good and some people even posted their own shots. The second to last review on that page by "Corky" confirms thatthere is no AF on his D40 with this lens. As for a wide angle, you really can't go wrong with the kit lens: 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6. I use it for almosteverything. As for the zoom lens, it seems great, but everyone I've discussed telephoto lenses with (for my D40X) has said that the 55-200mm VR lens iswhere it's at. Hope that helps, fam.Originally Posted by kicksgetmehigh

Is CMOS really that much better than APS-c ????
i NEED a truthful answer on this. Im looking at an a700 sony to replace my already sold a300. I sold the a300 with a flash + 28mm prime lens for 700, and a camera I foundfor another 135 to use for this purchase.
I could just buy another a300 for like 385 on ebay then a flash for 200 with my discount and have this money left over..but I wanna know if CMOS is worth it for real ? The a700 also has DOF preview and 5fps, plus is weathersealed
